Focus on stem cell models in embryology
Development has a long history of publishing papers in embryology, spanning over 70 years. Today, the field is incredibly exciting, with the generation of stem cell-based models providing new systems with which to study particularly elusive stages of early development, including pre-implantation, implantation and gastrulation.

Curated to coincide with the 2026 ‘Stem Cell Models in Embryology’ meeting from Keystone Symposia in California, USA, this collection from Development's Editor-in-Chief James Briscoe showcases recent papers on stem cell models of embryonic development. James will be attending the meeting along with Development Reviews Editor, Ingrid Tsang.

We hope this collection piques your interest, and we welcome your own submissions on stem cell-based models, and early embryonic development, for consideration by our expert Editors, including James Briscoe, Anna-Katerina Hadjantonakis, Matthias Lütolf, Liz Robertson, Peter Rugg-Gunn, Debby Silver and Jim Wells. I'm very excited to anounce that I'm Co-Founder and CEO at e184 BAI. As AI advances, having a way to work more closely with it is ever more important. That's why we're developing sensitive magnetometers for magnetoencephalography (MEG) towards building a brain-computer interface.
