We need places in common such as public libraries, community centres, parks, benches, flower beds of vibrant wildflowers, local post offices and corner shops. Not because they're "efficient" or "profitable", but because they're places which bring connection & heart to society.

At Grapevine we listen to the people we walk alongside, our team and our partners—and let what we learn change what we do. For August's team meeting theme of working as one team across projects, we asked: What is working well? Where are the opportunities for crossover? What more could we test out? ✨

A four-photo grid collage showing small teams within our team working together with flip chart paper, post-its and pens on a set of questions about how we continue working effectively as one team. Michelle joined us via the laptop.

If you think you might know what our health team project worker Herbie is holding in this photo then you are probably right! Made by colleague Emma, it forms part of our Top 2 Toe sessions for autistic people and people with learning disabilities on their individual Help and Connect journeys. 1/2

Thank you to Village Hotel Coventry who ran July's quiz night for us as their charity partner. We raised over £600 which goes towards hiring the venue, food and activities for our Teenvine Plus summer camp next week—celebrating what our young people with SEND have achieved over 12 months with us 💜

The photo shows teams at different tables inside a hotel conference room with purple lights, black and white carpet and overhead projector showing the quiz questions.

The government has announced one of the largest shifts of fiscal power to local places in decades. With this, we reflect on why handing power down to regions and communities is central to the government’s plan to turn around the UK economy and politics. www.ucl.ac.uk/policy-lab/n...

Our Coventry Youth Activists (CYA) believe locking disabled young people out of the internet removes a vital lifeline to friends and community — connections that can't be forged "in real life" when traditional community venues are either inaccessible or closed 🚫 They're calling not for an... 1/2

A yellow and black social media slide says: "Denying access to these important technologies will leave specific groups increasingly isolated and left behind... They will miss out on learning vital social skills needed for their future employment."

MORE HARM THAN GOOD 🚫 Coventry Youth Activists believe imposing a complete ban on social media for under 16s will cause many disabled young people to lose one of the only ways they can talk to others—increasing their chances of an isolated youth. They want government to instead focus on 3 things 👇

Last night, we welcomed guests from politics, civil society, philanthropy and the arts to the new V&A East Museum for an evening exploring how storytelling can connect rather than divide us, and build a stronger sense of shared belonging.

Happy Small Charity Week 💚 Quick shoutout to a few small charities in Coventry who we know are creating connection, opportunity and hope where it's needed most: LTB Showrooms, Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, Coventry Foodbank, Clothing Coventry, Langar Aid, Open Theatre Company, Ego Arts... 1/2

Willenhall in Coventry is one of the first 75 areas selected to receive part of the government's £1.5 billion Pride in Place investment over the next decade. As community organisers working in Willenhall over many years, we want to help ensure local people have their say on how this money is spent..

A red, black and cream event poster with the title '£20 million for Willenhall' in bold capital letters invites local people to have their say on how this money is spent either through a survey (with QR code to scan) or by attending a drop-in session. Details of which are included in the text of this post.

Teenvine Next Steps is designed for teens with SEND not attending school regularly, if at all. Project worker Poppy helps each one express themselves, self-advocate and plan for their future. Travel training helps reduce anxiety and build confidence in community around them—every small step counts ✨

Growing confidence, resilience, skills, friendships and ambitions helps young people with SEND take charge of their lives, build stronger futures and embrace new opportunities.
