Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

It`s Bandcamp Friday Day, and so it istime to make the post twhere I simply encourage you to give away your monoey to deserving musicians on Bandcamp.com and elsewhere. (Nota bene: all musicians are deserving , + there is no distinction between musician & non-musician. give people your money)

i ihate to post about ‘politics’ but at this point everyone agrees that the only reason Joanna Newsom’s 5th album isn’t out yet is becuase Gavin’s pressuring the recrod label to stop his weird cousine from being in the news & making him look worse by contrast (he cannot name a single bird), right?

Satie sample in "Near or Far" on the new Carly Rae Jepsen, and she actually seems to understand that the special Satie thing is less "soft gentle unintrusive" than "non-functional tonal harmony", which is pretty cool! good track. some fun chord progressions elsewhere on the album too. thanks Canada

update: memorizing remained fun & soothing. in absence of any other sort of performance chance, i decided to record the piece yesterday to mark 3 weeks since i started learning it. (spent a lot more time failing to fix a color grading problem than on the recording itself, c'est la vie.) it was fun!

this weekend i decided to start learning to play a random Haydn sonata from memory. so far it's been really fun and has soothed some of my art-related anxieties. it'd been way too long since i seriously memorized any music. in general memorizing things you like is so rewarding! recommended

saw "Camp Miasma" and the indie cinema put a trailer for "Kwaidan" before it, and i've decreed that from now on every movie must have at least one exterior shot (preferably 15) using handmade matte paintings for backdrops

the "auto-dub" that YouTube now imposes on videos, without the user asking for it, causes me immeasurable psychic distress. i despise it! if you must create a world of falsehoods, at least let me choose whether to enter it! 極めてなにか生命に対する侮辱を感じます!

i updated my list of Herman Melville cinematic adaptations, and all i could find after 5 years was several more Bartlebys. for shame. we need “White-Jacket but in the modern US Navy”. we need “Mardi but in space”. we need “A24 Presents: Bell-Tower”. letterboxd.com/somebypaths/...

Adaptations of Herman Melville works other than Moby-Dick

That's 2 Billy Budds, 2 Typees, 12 Bartlebys, and one each of Omoo, The Encantadas (Sketch Eighth), Benito Cereno, and Pierre (with two versions of the same production). Some of these adaptations are ...

It's Erik Satie time once again! I think you'll enjoy Volume 13, especially if you like the sounds of birds and vehicles and stuck notes, for it's all recorded outside on two lovely weatherworn public pianos. carriez.bandcamp.com/album/satie-...
