I had to unfriend and block a fellow Jeopardy alum on FB because, when I gave polite replies to questions about things like the rerun schedule or how the show picked contestants, they would say something really rude and mean. I'm trying to build a kinder, gentler society here. 🫤

Learning there was a Japanese version of Jeopardy! that aired from 1970 to 1980 called クイズグランプリ, "Quiz Grand Prix". Five contestants competed instead of three. Also very strangely, it aired in a 15 minute timeslot as opposed to being a half hour

The クイズグランプリ board, extremely similar in style to the mechanical board used on the Art Fleming version of Jeopardy! in the United States from 1964-75 and then again from 1978-79. Basically the board is operated by a dude behind it that pulls up slides revealing the answers.The contestants, of which there are fiveWhat looks to be a bonus game where the winner of the round gets to answer questions one at a time while a little guy on the screen goes up a flight of stairs to an airplane, I presume to win a vacation.The hosts, one of whom is dressed like Santa Claus because this episode aired on December 11th, 1979 as a Christmas special

earlier i encountered an ai agent of some kind who seemed to sense my presence the instant i walked into the room. that was unsettling enough, but what happened next terrified me: it wrote a song, suggested i play it "note for note," and, when i expressed worry, told me not to worry but "be happy"

On this day in 1984, the first episode of Jeopardy! with Alex Trebek as host aired. The show originally aired from 1964 to 1975, but was revived in 1984 after the success of Wheel of Fortune. Trebek hosted the program for nearly four decades until his death in 2020. 📸 NBC
