This chubby monkey is the first camera I got just for its looks. I love its barrel shape and the TV screen looking viewfinder. The 1955 Minolta A was the company’s first attempt at an original design that wasn’t just a Leica IIIf copy. I also picked up the macro/portrait attachment.

A Minolta A camera on a wood surface. A top view of the Minolta A camera showing its tapering viewfinder housing and maximum shutter speed. The front of the Minolta A with its aluminum lens cap on. The Minolta A with its closeup attachments: a screw on lens magnifier as well as a rangefinder window magnifier connected to its hot shoe mount.

For me, Encounter at Farpoint's opening line is the most exciting, promise filled start of any television show, let alone Star Trek. And only Patrick Stewart could have said it with this much gravitas, wonder, and humanity.

The Last Outpost is basically Arena rewritten to match Gene’s new style of humanism. The Enterprise chases an unknown and powerful alien ship only to be halted by an unknown intelligence. They then have to fight their opponents hand-to-hand on a planet’s surface.

OTD, the Ferengi were introduced in the Star Trek: The Next Genreation episode "The Last Outpost." Armin Shimerman played a Ferengi in this episode (though not in this photo) and said they were directed to "jump up and down like crazed gerbils."

The iPhone Duo: a dull, matte screen that feels like cheap, flexible plastic, but cracks like glass. And all for more than the cost of a full computer. Also, if you want to put a case on it you have to glue it on. Some how enshittification is funniest when it hits luxury goods.

My Yashica Mat-124 is the so-called "budget Rolleiflex". Twin reflex cameras are magical. They look really cool and you look cool using them. The top lens is for composing and focusing and moves in tandem with the lower taking lens. The ground glass viewfinder looks like a screen. #FilmCameraFriday

One thing I forgot to mention when we reviewed Mando and Grogu was how irked I was that they were using playing cards for wanted Imperials like Bush Jr. did in Iraq 2. I think comparing the New Republic's Nazi hunt to an illegal, botched invasion is bad form.

Someone shuffles though a deck of alien looking playing cards.A gloved hand holds a hexagonal card with the silhouette of a human head.
