AMT built two 3 foot models of the Klingon "D7" Space Cruiser. Matt Jefferies was directly commissioned to design it for a sellable kit. Those two models had some subtle differences. One wound up at the Seattle Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) ↙️ and the other at the Smithsonian (NASM). ↘️ 1/
Did a little refining. Blacked out some of the D7 windows and lit the shuttle door windows. Screen capped the TOS stars at a moment where there was less motion blur/streaking. Shifted a blue fill light a bit to make the shuttle a little brighter. Added a little more grain in post.
I used to collect action figures during the late 90’s boom. I watched people horde short packs and never remove them from the package. 30 years later most of that stuff is worth nothing. I’m glad I took all my stuff out and displayed it.

Hangar hump on the Klingon D7 complete. The fins on either side were a bit hard to get right. The ones on the model don't quite match the plans ↙️ so I needed to redo them when I noticed. Things are still matching up with screenshots well. I believe this still from "Elaan" was taken with a 50mm lens.
Working on the main body of the Klingon D7 and it's crazy how well everything is lining up. I was able to get the exact size of the studio model from the plans (28") compared to my 1/350 scale (25") and scale down the camera focal length I'm guessing was used (100mm->89mm).
The only thing this excellent takedown misses is that Pike’s awfulness is directly connected to the ideology of the show runners. Centrism sees having no opinions and no values as morally correct. Pike stammering and saying nothing in the face of injustice is what they want you to think heroism is.

60 days of Star Trek coloring books to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek. Day 16/60: Satire Trek Comix Cartoons, 1975. Cartoons and comics by Henry Roll, 40 pages, with a stealth coloring book back cover.
Finished up the neck, which is one of the more complex parts of the ship. It differs a lot from the plans and slightly between the two AMT models. The collar is more tubular on the plans, where the model has it flat on the bottom. I'll have to figure out how to attach it physically to the body next.
Saw the trailer for Heart of the Beast. Clearly this is the problematic actor driven MAGA wetdream material Paramount will be putting out from now on.
At the kid’s insistence, we are going to see The Odyssey tomorrow. I don’t think she know’s what she’s getting herself into. I know it has actors she loves in it, but so did Dune and she couldn’t finished that. And also like Dune it’s going to be 3 hours of melodrama and sword fighting in slowmo.
Finished cleaning up and tracing Jefferies' blueprints for the "Klingon Space Cruiser", AKA the D7. These would have been handed over to AMT to build the master that would then be scaled down for the model kit. 1/

Rod Roddenberry is posting vids of the 33” Enterprise filming model being restored. Here’s the most interesting one so far showing what looks like a grain of wheat bulb in the nacelle cap and wires embedded in the strut.

I was hoping the Phase II "K'Tinga" plans would be an accurate recreation of the D7 with the exception of the hat shape. Turns out there's a lot of changes. The only thing they nailed was the head bulb. So I'm straightening the perspective of the original D7 plans based on matching that shape.
Finished with the forward hull. Crazy enough this is the easiest part. Trying to model this in a way that it could be printed one day.

I would much, much rather have more seasons of Shadow and Bone - a show Netflix still emails me about - than another version of Avatar. And I'm less likely to try a new fantasy/scifi series out because it could be gone in a season or two and never wrapped up.

The funniest thing about Shatner is that he thinks we all missed the drug innuendo in pop songs so he’s gotta point it out to us as bluntly as he can. His over enunciation of “high” and “rock it, man!” here, for instance. He does it with Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and The Candy Man as well.
