It has been a year since Ya’kub Ira Vijandre, a Dallas-area activist and former DACA recipient, was detained after ICE revoked his status over social media posts. Ya’kub’s indefinite detention is a reminder that citizenship is the only solution to mass delegalization and detention.

Between the attacks on in-state tuition to the cuts to people’s work permits, the future can feel uncertain for many of us. Join us on Wednesday, October 7th at 7PM ET for “Building Our Future,” an interactive community call on education, entrepreneurship, employment, and pathways to citizenship.

Pastor Molis Augustave spent a decade preaching and organizing with his neighbors. After TPS for Haiti ended, he was left without protections. Pastor Molis was later pulled over for a burnt out headlight. Local police alerted federal immigration agents who then detained and deported him to Haiti.

Karen has taught elementary school for almost a decade. She filed her DACA renewal months early, but it was not processed in time, and as a result, she was forced to take unpaid leave from work.

Last weekend in Houston, UWD members paired up with @wethelucha to train over 30 of our neighbors, friends and community members on how to organize locally. Our members stepped into their power, led the space, trained their community, and became the next generation of organizing leaders.

Today is Citizenship Day; a perfect day to remind everyone that we are just ONE signature away from forcing a vote on the Dream and Promise Act in the House. The Dream & Promise Act would ensure citizenship for over 4.4 million immigrant young people, DACA recipients, TPS holders & those with DED.
