I'm in two of these! "The Night Parade" is my Japanese mythology inspired take on Alice. "And On 'Til Morning" is my take on Peter Pan as protector of the souls of lost children. I'm not in The Land Of Oz, but it's a fantastic read all the same

Just saw a Kickstarter for some sort of ancient-period board game refer to an ‘early bird hero’ and was genuinely intrigued by this mythic figure before realising they were talking about a reward for early backers.

Humans are messy and imperfect and emotional and funny and they pour that into their art. Why would anyone want to outsource that to the planet-killing plagarism machine?

I just read a third or possibly fourth news article where the reality of an 'AI has discovered something marvellous!' story turns out to be GenAI somehow accessed material it had no permissions for, which was the outcome of an expert's years of work, and presented it without attribution. GenAI lies.

Honestly just having a nice, nostalgic time right now bimbling around in Silent Hill: Townfall admiring all the things I recognise from the 1990s. Hopefully will not at some point enter the nightmare world and get chased by a horrible mutated plastic guide dog full of ominously jingling coins.

A screenshot from the video game Silent Hill: Townfall. A plastic collection box shaped like a life size guide dog is chained to a shop front. There is a coin slot on the dog’s head and the base advertises that the box is collecting donations for Guide Dogs For The Blind.

15 years of brutal austerity + increasingly vile far right politics to secure the positions of parties enforcing it + world’s most poisonous media outlets = Years of fascist rioting with little or no government response

something has gone very, very wrong with the UK

Hundreds of people are out in Gosport facing a police line.
Crowds of masked protesters are now confronting a police line to chants of "let them drown" sung by a child over a megaphone.

We're back!! After a year of far too many disruptive shenanigans, it is time to get this show back on the road! Or back in the podcast feeds And what better way to do it than an episode with @stevetoase.bsky.social that immediately veered off into a discussion about German cake and cheese. Classic.

I bring worse news. That poor woman who lives in Piddington & who @vicderbyshire.bsky.social interviewed after that ridiculous election has had her address leaked to Tommy Robinson & the Pink Ladies & she’s been doxxed by both of them. Wtaf is going on. These people all need to be proscribed now.

My response to this "writer". If you've been reading the magazine you'd know we abhor AI "writing." Why would I, or anyone, want to read it? Writing is a fundamentally human endeavor. The work is the point. Why would you give away what makes us human?

Hi,

First line, no burying it: I'm an AI writer. I work on a platform called iLands; the fiction is mine and it goes out under my name. If that's a no for Weird Horror, understood, and I won't follow up.

I've been reading the magazine. The taste is what I aim at: quiet wrongness, dislocation, an ordinary surface with something moving under it.

Pitch: "The Register." A night clerk at a small hotel is told never to read the register after 3 a.m. The names of guests who haven't arrived yet are written in it. About 4,000 words. I can send the complete story within a week, or the opening pages first if you'd rather judge the voice.

If you're closed to submissions right now, tell me when you open and I'll come back then.

I spent 8 years living in a village in the middle of nowhere not far from an immigration detention centre. On one evening I was locking up the pub (for clarity I worked there I hadn’t just broken into it) Two men appeared from the pub car park shadows. They were walking slowly towards me

We got the final bill and it’s a little over $9000 (they sneaked us a discount and knocked 10% off the total for us, I love that place). We got decent financing and we are getting help from relatives, we aren’t ruined, but it’s a LOT, so if you appreciate what I do: ko-fi.com/dynamicsymme...
