Countries pay taxes for a reason, a benefit, like education, health care, social infrastructure. US seems to think taxes are a means for government to deprive hard working people of the rewards of their labour? Just wondering? Do resource miners in Australia receive more subsidies than they pay tax? Some certainly do, but overall? Does fracking require a bond for inevitable water-table pollution, like open-cut mining requires a bond for rehab?

Australia does not want to be dependent, or "integrated" with a military power that supports genocide, currently involved in an illegal war, impacting us all. We aspire to being a respected and influential middle, regional power, and could proudly acheive that without being beholden to USA!

As well as AUKUS, I've been thinking about the absurdity of buying F35's! So impressed that Canada is proudly asserting its sovereignty in practical and profitable ways! Unlike Australia, which seems to be getting drawn ever deeper into US military dependency (it's called 'integration'!) and debt.
