I’ve written about what Black working class women are sharing with me on voting, apathy and changing loyalties. These are honest conversations about what people need from politics and what they no longer recognise. Sharing here and open to views.

Labour can no longer take the support of black and minority ethnic voters for granted, writes @mmasters21.bsky.social Read Marianna's piece from our ‘Learning Lessons’ series 👇 fabians.org.uk/learning-les...

Dogs, sunshine & so many locals at Brockwell Park enjoying ‘Brockwell Bark’. The return of a hugely popular dog show was the perfect break from Herne Hill & Loughborough Junction ward campaigning 🐶🌞 And yes… I definitely had cake. Again. 🤦🏾‍♀️🍰 Campaigning calories don’t count.

Thx to Brockwell Lido Users Group for a meeting that made the priorities clear: navigate the immediate crisis without closure, and build a long‑term plan with real community governance and investment. It’s clear this must be an inclusive campaign. Everyone has a stake in the Lido’s future.

A few weeks ago I visited Helping Hands Collective and saw their Community Food Pantry & Warm Space in action. Huge congratulations on their Lambeth Civic Award — well deserved. People prefer affordable, dignity‑first food access over the demoralising experience many associate with food banks.

Powerful IWD roundtable with The Labour African Network on Black women’s rights, equity and Ubuntu. Grateful to Denise Scott-McDonaldfor organising and to Sarah Owen MP for chairing with insight. Great discussion & I look forward to the report of recommendations

Great thank you Celebration with @crisis_uk volunteers. Hearing a guest speak about finding a “safe new home” reminded me why this work matters. The call for more women‑only provision really struck me. Women deserve safety & support tailored to their needs #CrisisSupport

Great to join Operation Black Vote at The Advocacy Academy for the launch of Brixton’s Black People’s Assembly. As a Lambeth councillor I took part alongside residents, community groups, faith leaders & workers. Thx OBV and The Advocacy Academy for creating such a grounded, accountable space.

Proud to serve as a Lambeth Labour Public Governor at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust and to see Lambeth school children at Jessop Primary School learning vital life‑saving skills on our wards. A brilliant public health initiative strengthening our community I💙NHS www.kch.nhs.uk/news/lambeth...

A brilliant start to the year with The Fabian Women’s Network Executive Committee holding a strategy day Huge thanks to Dame Anneliese Dodds MP for joining us. My focus as FWN Chair is to bring more women into the rooms where decisions are made and make sure we shape the agenda. Thx to FWN Exec 🌹

Started 2026 celebrating Sara Hyde’s introduction to the Lords — such a proud moment. A packed afternoon tea followed with Labour peers, MPs, Fabian women, councillors, civil servants, third‑sector colleagues and her brilliant family and friends made the day special. 🙌🏾 Baroness Hyde of Bemerton

Prisoners visited by family are 40% less likely to re‑offend. At Pact’s Advent Service we heard lived voices that prove why connection matters. 120,000 children face Christmas with a parent behind bars. Loved canapes provided by @TheClinkCharity at the reception Thx to @AndyKeenDowns for the invite

Meeting Jacinda Ardern was inspiring. Her reflections showed optimism, kindness & resilience as moral courage. Huge thx to Natasa Pantelic & LWPSN for a great event with @FabianWomen in Parliament. Bonus that Jacinda signed my copy of her book A Different Kind of Power — “Keep going.”

Great #StreathamWells community action day to tackle a fly tipping hotspot. Cllr Malcolm Clark & I would like to thank residents who helped & a big shout out to Jason from Freshview. We had great weather for building and painting planters and doing other tasks to brighten up the neighbourhood.

Huge honour to hear from social justice giants Lord Alf Dubs & Baroness Helena Kennedy at Alf Dubs Lecture Trust event. The theme “Is international law unravelling?" was depressing. The global rise of right wing populism has encouraged the attack of law & human rights in so many parts of the world!
