Anyway, plugging away on the wiki, got that Soltek system documented. I'm also repositioning the wiki to just be a center for the documentation that I've written for the machines that have come across my desk but I may open it up further as time goes on, and to trusted people to doc their systems.

Went and retrieved this for a discord convo and it just kinda made me more irritated what Sony has just…done to Horizon. Coulda had Horizon 3 but of course Guerrilla got sent to the live service mines because we can’t have nice things.

It was on sale and I had extra eShop credit so why not. Love that cross progression is a thing so I can just pick up where I left off on PC.

Sony announces the PS6: it’s only a small thing, no larger than a Pi. Sony’s pitch: since all your games are digital now, and no one can afford power due to datacenters, and no one can afford RAM but us corporations, we decided that gaming just has to happen on The Cloud™ now.

The TCRF thing is what happens when you dare say no to the entitled techbro manbabies and they have enough fuck you money to make your life a living hell because they’d rather do that than learn the concept of consent or do literally any form of introspection

This right here is why I generally recommend people who want to dip their toes into vintage computing go with an XP machine to start off. Just because XP enjoyed such a wide support window that finding hardware that’ll run it is cheap and easy. And XP has pretty good compatibility software wise too.

I've been having this discussion with people and agree there's going to be a lot of interest, but simultaneously the cost of retro tech is already inflated, and the increased demand will spike those prices further. I'm just hoping it doesn't get too expensive.

Did you think just because Rootie is en route to VCFMW that we had no more rootin’ tootin’ cowpokes around here? Nah. Chicken Sandwich found a hat so she could be cool too.

If I make VCF SoCal next year, I think I’m gonna run my Cube and my late friend’s SE/30. Because I figured out who has it and thankfully it’s another good friend of mine who is okay with loaning it to me for a VCF. (Pictured is his table at West 2023)

This is with I continually lash out against AI and the people that have drenched their identities in it. Because they’re twats who can’t comprehend consent. This is also why I believe generative AI is forever tainted. It’s hard to see anything good when the zone is dominated by losers like this.

While we wait on the DDoS mitigation to end (there's nothing we can do but wait), we've stood up a temporary landing page with an explanation of what's going on. Hope to see you again soon! tcrf.net

The Cutting Room Floor
Server offline

Welcome to The Cutting Room Floor, a wiki about cut, unused, and left over content in video games. Unfortunately, our server is currently offline due to a DDoS attack.

We'll be back as soon as possible; the server is online and healthy, but traffic to it has been blocked until the DDoS subsides.

For updates, check @tcrf.net on Bluesky. Unfortunately, we're no strangers to scrapers/AI bots and DDoS traffic...

In the mean time, consider checking out our Discord server, or support us via Patreon or Ko-fi.
This is all really stupid

This DDoS seems to have been triggered by someone using Claude Code and getting banned from the site for it, intentionally evading that ban to make up a fake story about their LLM wiping their entire OS, and then firing off multiple abuse reports to our host.

It may not surprise you that this guy has some interesting thoughts on consent, or that he has multiple blog posts in which he brags about poisoning LLMs to win championships or flooding a social network with spam to give himself 1,000,000 followers.

Why are AI people always like this.

There is seemingly some good news after that screed I poked my head into Amazon and while SSDs and SD cards are still not as cheap as they were, prices did come down a fair bit (like 128GB SATA SSDs can be had for $25 rather than $40 like before)

The shortages and price increases of tech just feel like Yet Another Instance of the rich technofascists stealing power from those they believe to be beneath them, by taking everything for themselves and not even leaving table scraps because again, RAM and flash is bought out until 2028 as of now

GTA be the type of game to print "piss shit fuck cunt bollocks" on a billboard in-game but then censor you if you type "balls" in the in-game chat online

Hell, I remember the days of getting a GameCube for dirt cheap and then rolling into a GameCrazy (Hollywood Video's game shop) and being able to pick up games like Metroid Prime for like, $5. Yeah, it was bare disc in an envelope, but being able to *play* it was what mattered.

I got into retro video games in high school and college because it was cheap. I was broke as hell but I was still able to pop into a thrift store or pawn shop and get NES and SNES games for $5. Same with DVDs. The deals I turned down because they weren't cheap enough would make you sick

If it’s stupid and it works, it ain’t stupid (This is the power adapter from my resin printer that’s awaiting parts and turns out it Just Works with the AMS 2)

Let me sit down with you, pro-AI folks. The more you scream “it’s not going anywhere, get used to it” and “if you don’t start using it you’ll be left behind” and “if you don’t use it you are unskilled”…the more vehemently we’re going to reject it. It’s probably better to keep it to yourself.
