Something interesting. The X800XL I have actually scored 13k—2k below the Nvidia 6600GT—even though it should mop the floor with the 6600. However…the All In Wonder X800 XT? It scores appropriately and gaps the shit out of the 6600. These beta drivers are strange, man.

Well, the Soltek QBiC runs. Threw a spare 2.8HT in too (which it sees as an engineering sample? Huh?) and now I’m kinda at a crossroads. I’ve grown quite attached to the Shuttle SB61 and now I’m wondering if I want to let this be the “new” Win98 box, or let it do something else instead.

Either my camera is choosing to be a little shit, or my 35mm prime is, and either outcome is going to result in me selling the whole works and moving to whatever mirrorless I can afford with the money. Hoping it’s just something dumb with the lens contacts and that giving it a good clean did it.

With the PicoIDE boxed back up, I decided eh, I’ve already ran the IDE cabling for it, why not just stick an IDE optical in here since I was handed a brand new one at ewaste of all places? Doesn’t match the FDD but I think it’ll be okay.

Times since xodium had let someone like, absolutely amazing just walk up to their table and do things without realizing who it was at VCF: 3 (+1 this year)

And came to an educated guess on the last two: it’s the chassis series plus front panel. You notice all the Shuttles ending in G2 look similar, same with the ones ending in G5? But once you strip away the front panel they’re the same under it all. Mostly. Some changes were made in later years.

Alright well. Seeing as I keep acquiring these systems and discovering more about them, I’d really like a place to stick that knowledge so others can benefit from it. As such…thanks to the domain being cheap, I now own ShuttleWiki dot com. I have hosting sorted but for now it just redirects.

Also I am totally stealing a page from @xar.ph and marketing our table next year as “the frutiger aero dimension opens again…in 2027”

So. #VCFWest 2026. What a damn show. Not as insane as last years was but still a lot. And every damn time some 30-something comes to my table and starts gushing about seeing stuff they grew up with, it reminds me that this is all worth it. Because the mid-00s is very under-represented here.

Oh yeah. So I had two more Shuttle class systems thrown my way at VCF and since I’m on my second wind I decided to tear into one of them: an SN41G2, mostly acquired because it’s an nForce2/Athlon box. Chucked my XP 3200+ in here and it seems to work though displays incorrectly, gotta update BIOS.
