Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

BP profits more than double to $5.7bn in three months as Iran war sends oil prices soaring - "While BP banks enormous profits, millions of households are paying the price" #energycrisis #climatecrisis www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

Burnham promises ‘pragmatic’ approach to North Sea oil and gas

PM tells reporters the government cannot ignore the energy resource ‘when people are struggling’

As Europe braces itself for another heatwave Andy Burnham looks set to approve new oil and gas. Kemi Badenoch is purging the Tories of net zero supporters, while Reform councils are abandoning climate goals up and down the country. The UK urgently needs bold and ambitious climate leadership

“Some children haven’t got a safe place to call home. They know they could be uprooted at any moment from their communities and schools. This is the legacy Labour has left Greater Manchester." Geraldine Coggins as she sets out the Green plan to deliver 20,000 genuinely affordable homes.

Terrifying to see wildfires raging through Scotland. The climate crisis isn't a distant threat - it's right here and right now. How many warning signs and alarm bells until Andy Burnham takes action to end oil and gas drilling?

Its not just me & Angela Rayner. If this Labour government rule out rent controls, a wealth tax, refuse to nationalise water companies, drill for oil and gas, continue to arm Israel - The country will be asking what's the point of a Labour Government? www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

Zack Polanski and Angela Rayner clash as she rejects London rent controls

Housing Secretary Ms Rayner took a stronger stance on rent limits than new Prime Minister Andy Burnham

"People here are really struggling to pay their bills. As the first Green Mayor of Greater Manchester, I will need rent control powers to help people make ends meet." Geraldine Coggins calls on Andy Burnham to back rent controls and give Greater Manchester the powers renters desperately need.

“People see the shiny towers and executive flats in the city centre, while rents rise and our towns are left behind. They know this is Labour’s record.” Geraldine Coggins calls out an economy that works for developers while communities across Greater Manchester are neglected.

The new Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has acknowledged that Israel is committing war crimes and that Britain has a moral and legal responsibility to respond. Today, Ellie Chowns MP has written to him calling on the Government to match those words with action, by ending all arms sales to Israel.

A two-page letter from Dr Ellie Chowns, Defence Lead for the Green Party of England and Wales, to the new Defence Secretary, Wes Streeting, dated 21 July 2026. The letter congratulates him on his appointment before urging him to end the UK's complicity in the genocide in Gaza. It notes Streeting's previous public statements that Israel is committing war crimes and that the UK has a moral and legal responsibility to respond. The letter cites findings from the International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court and UN bodies, argues that UK arms exports and participation in the F-35 programme risk breaching international law, and asks Streeting three questions about ending arms sales and military cooperation with Israel, recognising UN findings, and implementing international legal rulings. It concludes by urging him to match his previous statements with action by ending all UK arms sales to Israel.Bild

“I’m the opposite of concerned because I think this is going to expose the Labour Party, who often say they'll be different when they've got rid of Keir Starmer.” Zack Polanski on whether Labour will really change under Andy Burnham.

While politicians differ over calling out Israel's actions, more than 75,000 people have been killed. The Green Party has always been clear: call it a genocide and end UK arms sales to Israel. Andy Burnham apologised. Now it's time to match those words with action.
