Looks like the current storm may be coming to a close
1 - "disabled" is not a slur or a bad word. It's just what we are. We don't need other words to replace it. If it makes you uncomfortable ask yourself why. 2 - Having a disabled child doesn't make YOU disabled and listening to disabled folks AND YOUR CHILD will help you better support them.
I am endlessly talking about this. Parents of disabled kids don't get to decide what's best for disabled people. It's important to advocate for your kids, especially when those kids are not capable of advocating for themselves. But talking over actually disabled people? No, you don't get a say.
Erin Biba@erinbiba.bsky.social · 2y agoWitnessed a fight where a disabled person asked folks to stop saying "special needs". Parents of disabled kids screamed it's a better word then disabled. A good reminder that abled parents of disabled children can do a lot of harm by assuming they know just as much about disability as the disabled.
