Cofounded @authzed.com. Exited Red Hat, CoreOS. I build distributed systems, databases, authorization systems, containers, and businesses. NYC transplant in SF.

let's see a frontier model bioengineer nitrogen fixation into rice/wheat and save the globe millions of tons of fertilizer instead of solving math problems in a way the math community doesn't care about

I needed code indexing of major systems to help me research software. And now Standard subscribers get access to the same dataset. At the moment around 60 databases and programming languages are indexed (searchable, browsable), and the full 400+ project corpus is the goal.

I wanted to update my keyboard's keymap for the first time in 11 years and the firmware just compiled and flashed in the first go. I feel like this is only possible with OSS. If this was official software from the manufacturer, I doubt it'd still work after that long.

yesterday i saw helix declared dead in an HN thread, but today i went to update the oss ecosystem spicedb's latest treesitter grammar only to find out nvim-treesitter is _actually_ dead....

I haven't confirmed, but these days I notice lots of YC companies are knock offs of existing companies, rather than being the first to market. I'm not saying there shouldn't be competition, but lots of launches I look at now and go "oh, that's an ___ competitor". Has something changed?

i don't understand how cell coverage can be this dogshit in sf. it has literally gotten worse in the past 5 years. this city is famous for having a giant radio tower for christ sake

Idk to blame 1Password or macOS, but pretty regularly the emoji picker on macOS just ceases to show up until you quit 1pw (maybe because it left secure keyboard entry on or something?).

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

ICE is surging in the Seattle area. (Map shows activity in the last week) Do you have your whistle with you?

Map of ICE sightings from iceout.org, 7/1-7/8, showing Puget sound area between Fort Lewis and Marysville.
