If Cuomo makes an active run in the general election, I wanted to get a clearer picture of how much he lost support from his base since the last time he ran in NYC (2018 primary vs Nixon) & how much Mamdani ate into that base. Maps below now use same layout, color scheme, & ranges.

2025 NYC mayoral first round results (w/same color scheme and layout as adjacent 2018 map)2018 governor primary results in NYC (w/same color scheme and layout as adjacent 2025 map)

First post-Dem primary poll by Honan Strategy Group of 817 likely voters: If Cuomo runs as an independent, he is tied with Mamdani 39-39. Cuomo leads 44-40 if Adams drops out. Mamdani leads Adams 46-31 if Cuomo is out.

NYC's Campaign Finance Board announces they are withholding a total of ~$1.3 million in public matching funds from Andrew Cuomo's mayoral campaign, after deciding they have reason to believe the campaign coordinated with an outside PAC supporting Cuomo's bid for mayor.

New York City's Campaign Finance Board is approving public matching funds payments for the June 2025 primary election today. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams will receive more than $2 million in public matching money. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo will receive more than $1.7 million.

"It seems like the governor's not really running, he's just going through the motions," Eric Adams says of Andrew Cuomo's platform on antisemitism. He accuses the governor of copying his policy platform on housing and mental illness. "All he's doing is looking at Eric Adams's playbook," Adams says.

He's leading Democratic Primary contenders in all the polls, but former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is also petitioning to run on an independent ballot line in November called the "Fight and Deliver" line. Their symbol? A pair of boxing gloves. Read more in our upcoming newsletter, The Sprint for City Hall

NYPD Commissioner Tisch says she "was surprised" to find that ICE officers showed up at a police precinct over the weekend, because "the NYPD does not participate in civil immigration enforcement." NYPD "did not turn over to ICE the person that was in custody at that time," Tisch says.

Mayor Adams, in press briefing at City Hall on assault on police officers late last week, says many people came up to him over the weekend pleading with him to be mindful of the teenaged alleged perpetrators' age. "I don't want to hear people tell me it's a young person," Adams says.

Ridership is a big concern for transit agencies in terms of their ability to raise funds from fares. But one thing that's been exciting to watch is that while many agencies, like DC's WMATA, have lower ridership on weekdays than they did pre-pandemic, they now have higher ridership on weekends!

Asked what his main issue is with the Democratic Party, Adams says it's not "clearly fighting on behalf of those items that are crucial to working class people: Affordability, public safety, housing." He then declines to at all criticize Trump's sweeping tariffs.
