Two gorgeous galaxies, one edge on where you can see the dust lanes, and one side on where you can see the spirals.  Both are in colour with a galaxy-studded dark sky behind them.OK we've got some blobby dark matter maps here - classic astronomy image.  There is a zoom in showing how big the moon is relative to the blobs - roughly the blob size on the sky is the size of the moon on the sky.

The Kilo-Degree Survey spent eight years observing three areas of the southern sky in great detail. The researchers then used the data to estimate the distribution of matter. Areas with a particularly high density of matter are highlighted in red, areas with a particularly low density in blue. In the center you can see a section of the map in comparison with the size of the full moon.Four men, two very tall, two very short,  standing in front of the spring blossoms on the trees. A two panel figure.  The x-axis is omega_m, the fraction of matter in the Universe.  The y-axis is S8 on the left and sigma_8 on the right.  Both are measures of the 'clumpiness' of dark matter.  The contours show that the KiDS data (two measurements using slightly different statistics, COSEBIs and Bandpowers) agree with the data from the Planck CMB survey.
