In the aftermath of the devastating Venezuela earthquakes, Copernicus Sentinel-1 measured ground displacement of up to 65 cm around Caracas using radar observations from space. 🛰️🌍 The data are helping scientists better understand the event and support disaster assessment efforts.
How Sentinel-1 measured movement of Venezuela quakes
More than one month on from the catastrophic twin earthquakes in northern Venezuela on 24 June 2026, satellite data show the ground displacement was greater than first estimated.

My teams have completed all necessary checks and testing of the Cebreros station. After careful review, we have declared the antenna GREEN for nominal operations as of 27 July.
Based on current information, the Cebreros station appears to have remained unharmed. My deepest thanks go to the Spanish emergency services whose efforts helped protect the site as wildfires approached. Left: 24 July 19:57, Right: 25 July 07:54
