On a dark background, the Moon nearly covers the Sun, leaving only a bright crescent visible on the left-hand side. The Sun's surface looks active, with bright yellow glowing loops sticking out from it. The Sun emits a yellow-orange glow that extends around the dark Moon, and faintly lights up the Moon's left side. Craters are faintly visible on the Moon's surface. The top right has an ESA logo, and the bottom left has text reading “solar eclipse; coming to Europe

Wildfires west of Athens, Greece, seen from space 🔥 Captured on 2 August 2026, these images show the event at different scales: on the left, Copernicus Sentinel-2 shows the burned area and smoke plume, while on the right, Sentinel-3 shows the wider extent of the smoke across parts of Greece.

🔙 Twelve years ago today, ATV Georges Lemaître began its journey to the International Space Station. As the fifth and final Automated Transfer Vehicle, it concluded a programme that delivered more than 30 tonnes of cargo to orbit and helped repeatedly boost the Station's altitude around Earth.

In the aftermath of the devastating Venezuela earthquakes, Copernicus Sentinel-1 measured ground displacement of up to 65 cm around Caracas using radar observations from space. 🛰️🌍 The data are helping scientists better understand the event and support disaster assessment efforts.

How Sentinel-1 measured movement of Venezuela quakes

More than one month on from the catastrophic twin earthquakes in northern Venezuela on 24 June 2026, satellite data show the ground displacement was greater than first estimated.

"Day 163, orbit 2523 — Sunday morning science with Sophie, episode 13: Torque, force and distance!
When where you apply a force can matter just as much as how much force you apply..." says @esa.int astronaut Sophie Adenot.   🎥 ESA/NASA

Based on current information, the Cebreros station appears to have remained unharmed. My deepest thanks go to the Spanish emergency services whose efforts helped protect the site as wildfires approached. Left: 24 July 19:57, Right: 25 July 07:54

After last Sunday's themed tour of the ISS, it's time for the sciencey explanations! OK, the procedure isn't actually an official one... but if you know, you know 😉" by @esa.int astronaut Sophie Adenot   🎥 ESA/NASA

If it fits, I sits! The MTG-I2 satellite passed the fit checks with the Ariane-6 Launch Vehicle Adapter: a physical and functional verification of the interfaces between the satellite and the launch adapter. This 3800 kg satellite is set to launch on an Ariane 6 rocket this summer🚀
