No, no and no. These weren't "rogue AIs" -- what happened here is that OpenAI kicked off a software process and let it run. OpenAI was always in control and could have stopped the process (or actually paid attention to what it was doing) at any time. >>
Bosses *hate* the fact that they can't turn their plans into action without first having a series of ego-shattering confrontations with workers who actually know how to do things, who insist that those plans are illegal, stupid, impossible or will kill people: pluralistic.net/2026/03/12/n... 27/

Job! Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Humanities & Publishing at Carnegie Mellon - cmu.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/CMU/de...
In research, to claim that generative AI somehow means commercial chatbots (I guess?), mangles those words to the point where they don't mean anything anymore (in research). "Generative" means something very specific. "AI" less so, and is contested, but it's definitely != "chatbot" (in research).

"The values described in Claude’s constitution sound very nice, but that hardly matters; it’s dishonest to suggest that Claude is capable of moral reasoning, because it’s not." -Ted Chiang, No, Artificial Intelligence Is Not Conscious www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2...

Taken to its logical conclusion, this line of thinking is absurd—and damning.

There's a genre of LLM criticism that I find so destructively unhelpful: using a single vague prompt to "analyze" data, e.g. "summarize the themes across this collection of texts," to claim "see! LLMs don't work." & it's getting published! Reviewers this is not good work pls reject it if you see it.
In the lawsuit by the MLA, @acls1919.bsky.social, & @historians.org, the court has ruled that termination by the NEH of grants to support scholars, research institutions, and humanities organizations was “unlawful, unconstitutional, ultra vires, and without legal effect.” www.mla.org/Resources/Ad...

ding ding ding I also think it’s relevant that this is in particular a coding tool, and there was likely an effort to give it a masculine name as a result🫠
Every time I see someone talk about Claude I think about how they switched from female to male names as soon as they wanted the robots to seem like experts vs personal assistants.
