Ran 15km and shipped a product at the same time. At RUN/HACK London you could only build while you were out running, so we dictated the whole thing to an AI agent mid-run. Serenetripity plans a walking route around how you feel: serenetripity.vercel.app

Neuroscience PhD (UCL). I studied how people navigate the real world; now I build LLM agents for it. Nature Reviews Psychology author. Cellist and Singer 🎻
Sang a Late Night Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. “Ultimate Calm": BBC Symphony Chorus, City of London Sinfonia, and a whole programme built around stillness.
🎮 Can a video game help us understand the brain? We speak with computational neuroscientist Dr @emre-yavuz-21.bsky.social about navigation, gaming and cognitive health. 🎧 Listen now! (links in thread) #Neuroscience #Gaming #BrainHealth #SciencePodcast
No one with speech impairment should have to repeat themselves to be understood. Building a tool to help & looking for 10-min feedback chats with stroke survivors, carers, or those with Parkinson’s/MND/CP. DM me! 💬 @parkinsonseurope.bsky.social @england.nhs.uk @thestrokeassoc.bsky.social
I spent five days at the Francis Crick Institute pitching a startup. We didn't place. The most useful thing I did all week was stop listening like a founder and start listening like an investor. Seven things I'm taking away. 🧵
Two weeks after winning the London hub, we found out we also took the overall Above and Beyond Award at Hack-Nation. Team: Josh Philipp Peters, Paula Juan Royo, Francesco Coccia. It was my ninth hackathon and my first win. 🏆
🥈 2nd of 100+ teams at the Juno × Anthropic healthcare hackathon in London. We built Heard in 24 hours: for the millions who still speak but aren't understood, it turns their words into a clear voice with one tap.
Thrilled to be back at the Royal Albert Hall for tonight’s Prom, Afterlife: Visions of the Beyond, singing with the London Philharmonic Choir and BBC National Chorus of Wales. Boulanger and Szymanowski with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under Ryan Bancroft. 🎵
My ninth hackathon. My first win!! 🏆 A physician-physicist, two neuroscientists, and a cybersecurity engineer, not one web developer among us. In ~21 hours at Hack-Nation's Global AI Hackathon we built BoneBot, a hormone-aware bone-health screener for postmenopausal women. 10 lessons 🧵
First time building an app entirely on a phone: no laptop, no IDE, ~3 hours in the Cursor app at last night’s Cursor iOS London Hackathon. I was sceptical it could produce anything real. It can. We shipped Wander, walking navigation that optimises for the human, not the machine. Links below 🧵
My first hackathon abroad opened a door I didn't know I was looking for. Flew to Megathon, built Sounday (music to prep your for your week), shipped a working demo in hours. Biggest lesson: framing beats polish — "without us you lose X, with us you win Y." If you're unsure about doing one: go. 🚀
Meet my Megathon teammate & co-founder, Hodo Elmi Aden! Pairing my background in human cognitive neuroscience & psychology with her experience building design-centred products, we're creating something at the intersection of music & psychology. More soon 👀
First time in Amsterdam, here for the Megathon — one of Europe's biggest hackathons. Here to meet new people, swap ideas, and learn as much as I can. If you're around, say hello 🚀
A lovely day in Rotterdam with my friend Alessandra La Terra, whom I first met at RIKEN’s neuroscience summer school in Tokyo. The architecture struck me — the Cube Houses aren't just homes, they're built to bring people together. It echoes my work with Arup & RISE on how design shapes behaviour 🌱
Arrived in Amsterdam for the Megathon — 500+ builders, the biggest hackathon I've done and my first abroad (and my first time in Amsterdam!). Here to absorb everything, build, and hopefully make lifelong friends. If you're in the city, drop me a message 🚀🌱
The last night of the Lord of the Rings Weekenders at the Royal Albert Hall! Singing in all 9 of these concerts has been a blast. And a lovely last-minute surprise to see friends from my PhD watching the last concert. Until next time! 🌟🥰 #film #lordoftherings #music #choir #orchestra
Back at Royal Albert Hall with London Philharmonic Choir and London Philharmonic Orchestra for a Lord of the Rings Weekender! Amazing to share the stage with Sir Ian McKellen! 🫶🌟🗡️ #music #performance #film #soundtrack #lordoftherings @lpchoir.bsky.social

A tremendous first night performing the soundtrack for the first Lord of the Rings movie – The Fellowship of the Ring – with the @lpchoir.bsky.social and @londonphilharmonicorchestra, under the baton of Ludwig Wicki at the Royal Albert Hall! 🏰🎻 #music #performance @royalalberthall.bsky.social
Why do some people never get lost while others rely on GPS? A new review, written by @hugospiers.bsky.social and @emre-yavuz-21.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44... argues that navigation ability is shaped by both fixed factors (age, genetics) and modifiable ones (sleep, exercise, experience).
Determinants of individual navigation ability - Nature Reviews Psychology
There is substantial variation across people in navigation ability, which is shaped by multiple factors. In this Review, Yavuz and Spiers organize these factors into lifetime, lifestyle and personal a...

📣 So happy to share with you the results of my main PhD study, where two human predators worked together to hunt a human prey in Minecraft, and had their brains scanned simultaneously using fNIRS 🎮🧠 We find that the brains of the predators are synchronised in the prefrontal cortex during hunting! 💡
Epic night with Tan Dun conducting the UK premiere of his Choral Concerto: Nine + Beethoven’s 9th! London Philharmonic & London Chinese Philharmonic Choirs, incredible soloists. Loved every minute 💫🎵
Such a fun to read and well written review; can really recommend for anyone new to or already proficient in spatial navigation research!

Dr. Yavuz!!!! Delighted to share that I have passed my PhD viva today 🎓✨ A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Isabella Wagner (University of Vienna) and Prof. Caswell Barry (University College London) for an extremely enjoyable and stimulating viva.
