A new project output with this paper led by @javiersanmillan.bsky.social on how the size, spatial distribution and level of residualisation of the social housing sector mediates the relationship between economic inequality and economic segregation in Dutch cities.
Why does economic inequality not necessarily result in residential segregation between the rich and the poor? 🏠 We suspected social housing played a role in the Netherlands and started researching it some years ago. And today we just published our results in @housingjournal.bsky.social!
5/5 🧵In @housingjournal.bsky.social, @javiersanmillan.bsky.social et al. study how the characteristics of the social housing sector affect residential segregation in 🇳🇱. Results show that spatial integration and broad accessibility of social housing reduce income segregation. doi.org/rhsm

🚨Publication alert🚨 Housing discrimination undermines a fundamental right and generates distortions that limit collective prosperity. Today we are happy to publish in Social Forces an article on this phenomenon using experimental methods! Two highlights ⬇️ academic.oup.com/sf/advance-a...
The takeaway: 👉 Accommodating the radical right on immigration doesn’t win back voters. 👉 It alienates the progressive base. 👉 And it raises the salience of the very issue the radical right owns. In short: it’s electoral self-harm.

Using @lisdata.bsky.social data, I plot wealth inequality against income inequality and the wealth-to-income ratio: how much wealth a country has, relative to the size of its economy. As expected, there's minimal relationship between the Gini index for marketable wealth and that for income
