I was in #Shiretoko NP for discussing science-driven ecosystem restoration. Many ECRs have contributed by collecting data and supporting the project. Nurturing both trees and people is essential for forest restoration, which can only be achieved through sustained long-term efforts.
It was a wonderful opportunity to explore such a beautiful protected area and to discuss our ongoing collaborations. Thanks, @sebseibold.bsky.social. This is the beauty of academia—being able to keep meeting friends through our work while contributing to science and society.

Great talk by @rupertseidl.bsky.social today at BC3 on the past, present, and future of forest disturbances in Europe and what this means for biodiversity and ecosystem services. Especially interesting to see how forest recovery is rapid in most of Europe, but not in Central and Southern Iberia.

Such an excellent paper. Climate change is indeed reshaping forests in ways that threaten the forestry sector, biodiversity, carbon storage, and ecosystem resilience. For many stakeholders, it is critically important to strengthen the quantification of these impacts and to ensure accountability.

Visit to the experimental site in Berchtesgaden National Park. I am now deeply impressed by how science and practice are effectively integrated here. For sure, three must be lots of difficulties but also opportunities.
I have learned about Bavarian silvicultural systems and the challenges they are facing. Then I have realized how our systems in Japanese forests are conservative and hesitant to change/adapt…
