I’m pretty sure half of Waukesha county was out this morning. Kids everywhere, lawn chairs all along the route. Grateful for a Memorial Day spent with neighbors.

My dad taught all of his kids to fold a flag the way he'd been taught in the Navy during Vietnam. I grew up understanding what military service asks of a family. My father came home. Too many didn't — and across Wisconsin today, families still hold the flag that was folded for them.

I'm running for governor because Wisconsin families deserve a fair shot at a good life: affordable health care, strong public schools, housing you can actually buy, childcare that doesn't eat half your paycheck. That's not too much to ask. And it's what I'll fight for every single day.

I worked night shifts as an ER nurse to pay my way through college. Later I was juggling a career, two kids, and caring for my dad through Alzheimer's. I know what it means to look at a calendar, a checkbook, and a child's face and do the math. That's why I'll never stop fighting for childcare.

Today is #ADayWithoutChildCare. As a working mom, I know what it's like to scramble for care and to worry about affording it. Without child care, Wisconsinites can't work night shifts, serve their communities, or pursue their careers. Child care makes everything else possible.

30 years in health care. I've never seen a bill designed to do this much harm to this many people on purpose. $72 million a year - Wisconsin taxpayers footing the bill to kick people off their coverage. That's not a budget cut. That's cruelty with a price tag. Tom Tiffay voted for it. He owns it.

I got into public service for the same reason I became a nurse: to make a difference. As governor, I’m going to fund our public schools, create affordable health care options, lower the costs of childcare and housing, and give every Wisconsinite a shot at a good life.
