we're waiting for a fix to Electron to land before we can release the next version but in the mean time we're just building new features. This morning we added support for all the chrome.tabCapture extension APIs, which should bring in support for a whole new range of extensions.
Guess which browser went 29 major versions without having a directory listing feature... Well, not anymore, the upcoming version of Polypane now has a beautiful directory listing! It's fast, responsive, easy to navigate, and part of an exciting new feature we're keeping under wraps for now.

I wrote the logic for this so it shouldn't surprise me, but I was very pleased nonetheless to see that @polypane.app's focus order overlay perfectly takes the reading-flow example in @matuzo.at's article into account.
I saw a great introduction to CSS Grid Lanes, aka Masonry Layouts, by @patrickbrosset.com at CSS Day 2026. I liked the versatility of its use cases, but I was also concerned that it's inaccessible by default. matuzo.at/blog/2026/gr...
Will be published on the Polypane blog, so expect lots of examples and demos!
I'm about halfway and 4000 words into an article on `random()` in CSS. Here's an aurora.
What side panel extensions would you like to see in Polypane? Let us know!
I'm implementing the Chrome Extensions sidepanel API so I can support @lloydi.com's wcag lookup extension, but I need a bunch more to test! What are your favorite sidepanel extensions that you'd love to see in @polypane.app ?
We have a huge backlog of ideas and user requests going back all the way to our initial beta in 2017 and some even earlier. They stick around until the timing is right, like adding text selection sync, a backlog item we added on April 12th, 2019 (predating Polypane 1.0!) and that's shipping soon.
No multi-pane view here, since mouse position is not synced. But between Layout debugging and the 3d view, @polypane.app gives you a (super janky) noclip debug mode 🤯

The commandForElement lets you link to an element via JS directly, no need to give it an ID. Next version of @polypane.app is smart enough to show that link in the elements panel. More info here on MDN: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W... via @rikschennink.com
