I only saw him once in person. He was sitting at a table all by himself at an Oakland convention. I was so surprised -he was just sitting all alone! I got all shy & never went over. I didn't think i had anything to say. Still don't. But I'm happy every time I see he's still around

Happy 89th birthday to the World's Fastest Cartoonist, the legendary Sergio Aragonés! He arrived in NYC with $20 in 1962, found a home at MAD, and never looked back. I loved his work for DC - especially PLOP! - but he's also worked for Marvel, created GROO, & so much more! Long life & good health!

Sept. 6, 1926: Three thousand orchestra musicians walk off the job in Chicago in a dispute over wages. Silent movies are more silent than ever without musical accompaniment and vaudeville acts are strictly spoken-word. Attendance on what would normally be a busy Labor Day is one-eighth the average.

The horse on display at a show, being presented as a curiosity. Although this hasn't happened, the horse has pretty much vanished from our streets while in 1910 they were still everywhere. I wonder how many people then saw this and found it hard to believe that would happen.

Here's a fantasy: A former sheriff runs for mayor on a promise to straighten out thy police force -and actually does! I know that's ridiculous, but also realize no one short of that would get a chance to make it work (I'm missing Sheng Thao!)

OPOA contract also increases "longevity pay". From fixed to dynamic of salary + ongoing raises. Rough estimate of the first tier, based on current starting salary, is already almost $1K more per officer than the previous agreement [on right], even before new raises factored in.

504 years ago, on the 6th of September 1522, the Victoria arrived in Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain. It was the only surviving ship of Magellan's global circumnavigation and the first ship ever to complete that feat. Magellan himself died during the expedition, while in the Philippines. 🗃️
