I'll tell you one job that doesn't seem to be going away with AI - editors. I've watched people try and write bots to mimic editors, but the taste of the editor was still required. And the slop posts on social media are getting... longer? Why? Folks, more than half of writing is throwing it away.

The whole “opting people into AI training” on Twitch thing right at my 10th anniversary of streaming has me thinking about where we go from here. I’ve enjoyed Twitch and it’s been an important part of my life and my community’s life, but I also don’t think it’s necessarily trustworthy now.

During The Odyssey’s production, Holland’s collaborators on Spider-Man got used to hearing about Christopher Nolan. “I was really able to lay down the law and say, ‘We are not going to come to set and figure it out,’ ” Holland said. “ ‘We need to know why we are making this movie beyond the fact that it’s Spider-Man 4 and they make loads of money and we’re going to just have a big summer. Why are we making this movie?’ And Destin was super instrumental in that, but it was just really great to constantly be calling up the studio and [producers] Amy [Pascal] and Rachel [O’Connor], who I love, and be like, ‘Well, Chris is doing it this way. This is how I think we should be doing it.’ ”

Data analysis AI will really confidently argue with you and tell you it didn’t just send you an unrequested email this morning (it totally did) because it doesn’t fully understand its own script logic it is SO seductive when it gives you good outputs but you have to be SO careful

I can’t speak to this directly as I’m using an enterprise Miro plan. But I think we all know what it’s like to have Microsoft’s AI features interfering. And even on Enterprise, Miro has embedded upsell features like Prototyping with misleading patterns that trap you multiple times. Don’t love it.

I just jumped the ship from Miro, who I have been a customer of since it was Realtime Boards, to Mural, because Miro's AI features were actively interfering with my work and there is no option to turn them off unless you're on an enterprise plan.

The only way forward imo, is to spread the good news of More Than One Thing Can Be True to break out of these pernicious nonsense dichotomies. For example, public health measures can be annoying and inconvenient and expensive and tedious and not 100% effective and also the best course of action.
