I'm going to keep saying this until it's rote practice: If you are in official connection with let alone in charge of an archive of data, if is your professional & moral responsibility to secure that archive, as a backup or otherwise, against just such an emergency, so we're not Hoping some kid did.

Incredible. When E—n M—k & his crew obliterated USAID in a weekend, they deleted a vast trove of publicly-funded knowledge: the Development Experience Clearinghouse. A Canadian high school student (!) happened to have downloaded the entire thing for a project. AidData has now posted it for all.

During the pandemic my brain broke. At least the part of my brain that could write. Which is a problem for someone who considers himself a writer. So I spent a lot of time doing writing adjacent things like laying out books and zines. Which is fun.

A stack of zines and books that I've written and laid out.

I started listening to @mikemuncer.bsky.social's Evolution of Horror in 2021, and it's so good. When I go on my little runs I look at all my lefty technology and politics and science podcasts, and sigh and think, I can't handle *real* horror, I'm going to listen to nice people chat about slashers.

I need to write a piece called "How to Market Nothing" because so often the people advocating a better, lower cost approach are up against organizations with huge marketing budgets who flood the zone

1. "They tried to run us over" has been institutionalized as DHS's license to shoot people. They reflexively go to this lie when they draw their guns. 2. Even with a masked man is waving a gun in her face, this woman repeatedly tells them they are full of shit. Hero.

This is absolutely WILD. Here's the dashboard video posted by @fritschner.bsky.social. Fast forward to about 1 minute. An ICE officer jumps out of a van and pulls a gun on this woman immediately before lying and claiming she "almost ran us over." *profanity warning if watching in public.
