Instead of fixing immigration court's shortcomings, DHS wants to fine some immigrants up to $18K for missing court hearings they may not even know about. But it fails to address egregious barriers people face like not having a lawyer. WATCH NIJC's Bairavi Sundaram unpack the proposal:

3-year-old Orlin was murdered after ICE separated him from his mother, Wendy. This can never happen again. Today, I’m introducing Orlin’s Law to stop family separation and prohibit ICE from detaining or deporting immigrant parents unless they pose a public safety threat.

ICE is responsible for the murder of Orlin Hernandez Reyes. While we can’t bring him back, we can honor him by passing my new bill, Orlin’s Law, to stop ICE from separating parents from their children. Families belong together.
