Helter Skelter (2012) is high key everything The Substance wanted to be, and 10x more. It’s a masterpiece of feminist film that actually makes you sick to think about the rotting effects of beauty standards, and is one of my new favorite examples of “beautiful horror.” And it gave me WEIRD dreams

It took me - and maybe, all of us - far too long to remember that the same guy who made heated rivalry also made Letterkenny…. Do I need to watch this show with new eyes? What does this mean?! (There’s a lottttt of hockey in this show👨❤️👨)
An Italian Market still life 💕 South Philadelphia icon
i love that i can go to fb marketplace and bid on a veritable ARMY of geese
One of my favorite South Philly cornices, basking in the sun 🌞 😊
journalists are workers who deserve to be paid fairly for our labor and I think that far too few consumers of media recognize or even care about this fact
I’m a few weeks late to heated rivalry and all i can say is THANK GOODNESS it’s not just me that this show makes me feel like I’m losing my mind😭❤️ why do they feel like real ass people in my life 😭😭😭
shoutout to the traditional clothing of the Aran Islands in Ireland because this slaps
Lowkey starting to feel like this is one of those books everyone recommends but no one actually reads? Like in all the debates about “whether ICE is like the Gestapo or slave catchers” (spoiler alert - it’s both) it’s like everyone…was there not major best seller about this exact thing?!
Excuse me while i sob over Leyb Kvitko's children's book "Di bobe shlak un ir kabak" (Granny Shlak and her Pumpkin), published in Kharkov in 1928
So the Haus der Kunst decided that it would be a good idea to post a row of yiddish words in a stark, san serif font across a minimalist, oppressively designed structure designed by Nazi architect Paul Troost - is anyone surprised that people find this a BIT off-putting?
There is literally one and only one movie to have on in the background doing chores today #louvreheist
Fun fact about the real life Dracula, Vlad the Impaler. One time, he invited all the poor, sick, and homeless under his rule to a lavish feast. He then boarded up the doors and lit the room on fire, burning them all to death. When met with outrage, he simply said: "No one will be poor in my realm."
Guinness Book of World Records has Bulgaria as one of the top 4 countries in bread eaten per capita - just behind Turkey (who quite likely got bread from the Bulgarians), Serbia, and Montenegro (all in the same geographic region.) Can any historians tell me why? & why it’s so crucial to the culture?
It appears that there’s a spot on Google maps in Burgas, Bulgaria that is titled, “The Cormorant,” but is in fact, just a log that a cormorant sometimes hangs out on. It gets 5 stars🥲
We must preserve the US Postal Service because UPS or FedEx would never do this.
Last gelati of the season 🥲 it’s been real 😭 Thank G-d for South Philly 🩷
Another writing night where I’m kept safe from predators by Pikachu
They don’t allow cameras in Cowtown, the oldest weekly rodeo in the United States - which happens to be in New Jersey, just an hour away from my home in Philly. So I tried my best to capture some of the excitement on my iPhone 🐎
Cowtown Rodeo (the oldest rodeo in America in Salem County, New Jersey) is a machine affair with men riding bulls and bucking broncos. Even the announcer seemed to admit that by far the most talented and fearless performer was this woman riding 4 horses, bareback and barefoot, through rings of fire
One of these pictures is "Alligator Alcatraz." The other is a data center north of Castroville, Texas. Can you tell which one is which? And better yet, why they look...almost identical?
Washington Post: “Is fascism bad? The answer may surprise you” Teen Vogue: “Here are three fun tips you can use this summer to disable an armored personnel carrier”
Idk about you but I’d just feel a lot safer if more fire stations looked like castles

We should have a larger convo about how companies like American Eagle use beautiful people to add glamor to unglamorous products. In 2023, a young Bangladeshi woman committed suicide at a factory that made American Eagle clothes bc of abuse. This is the cost of cheap, trendy clothes.
Today’s collection of gems, back home in South Philly
Very uncomfortable vibes in the sale booths at the York County State Fair :/ I love Pennsylvania, but I can’t say I love this part
