More white storks are breeding in Germany than at any time since record-keeping began. The shrinking population of white storks used to be a cause for concern, but thanks to their adaptability as well as conservation measures, more than 15000 breeding pairs have been recorded.

As of yesterday evening, the Luftwaffe's CH-53 heavy-lift helicopters have made a total of 92 flights since the start of the operation on 28 July, depositing 460,000 litres over the fire areas. The operation continues.

The Bundeswehr is assisting French forces in fighting the wildfires in the Bordeaux area. Two of the Luftwaffe's CH-53 heavy-lift helicopters are flying in shifts to drop water over fire areas, with each helicopter able to drop 5,000L per flight.
