We're stepping up 🇩🇪🇬🇧 AI safety cooperation. Germany's Digital Minister Wildberger & @lizforleicester.bsky.social agreed to strengthen collaboration, incl. between the AI Security Institute & planned 🇩🇪 equivalent. We know about the extraordinary work teachers and advocates of German do day in and day out. Their dedication opens doors and inspires. Today we celebrated them with an award ceremony. "Danke" to all those who do this work to open doors to new cultures, friendships and opportunities!

Airbus is a 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇪🇸🇩🇪 success story! And an excellent example for building European resilience and technological sovereignty. Many thanks to my 🇫🇷&🇪🇸 counterparts and the great Airbus staff in Filton for an inspiring discussion of the challenges facing us over the next decade.

We’re strengthening 🇩🇪🇬🇧 Parliamentary ties. Bundestag President Julia Klöckner was in London meeting with @commonsspeaker.parliament.uk, @lordspeaker.parliament.uk, Deputy PM, Archbishop of Canterbury & others. Talks focused on populism, social media, engaging young people & 🇩🇪🇬🇧🇪🇺 defence cooperation.

Grateful for the opportunity to talk with First Minister @johnswinney.bsky.social about the close cooperation between 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, 🇩🇪 & 🇪🇺. We discussed some of the many opportunities to deepen our cooperation further - from the economy to energy to technology. A lot we can do together!

With Kultur Ensemble we have opened a shared space for exchange, creativity and mutual inspiration.

On Democracy - Elif Shafak and Nino Haratischwili explored the connection between literature and democratic resilience. Big thanks to two outstanding contemporary authors and literary expert Rosie Goldsmith.

Thank you to NATO Maritime Command in Northwood for insights into current challenges & ongoing planning of NATO’s maritime and naval air forces across the Alliance’s areas of interest. Germany's commitment to NATO is unwavering.

77 years ago today, the Grundgesetz (Basic Law) was promulgated. It's Germany's bulwark against authoritarianism - protecting democracy, human dignity, freedom & the rule of law. It was at the 1948 London Conference that 🇬🇧 & other Western allies called for the constitution.

External actors try to undermine our democracies at a time when we also see political & societal fragmentation domestically. Discussed how to increase democratic resilience with experts, students & civil society from 🇬🇧 and 🇩🇪. #KensingtonTreaty

Especially in our current climate it is vital to cooperate across borders to step up our fight against antisemitism in all its forms. With Lord John Mann and @jon4highpeak.bsky.social I discussed how we can improve the protection of Jewish communities in our countries together.

2026 marks 70 years of the Federal Intelligence Service, the BND. 🇩🇪🇬🇧 intelligence cooperation is keeping us safe in a rapidly changing security landscape. The #KensingtonTreaty strengthened these ties, e.g. with a pledge to jointly fight hybrid threats & foreign interference.

The UK and EU are working to improve trade in agricultural goods and food. Parliaments play a central role in scrutinising the process. Today, I discussed the opportunities arising from the 🇪🇺🇬🇧 reset with MPs on the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Committee. @hoccommittees.parliament.uk

For 55 years the German School in London has provided outstanding teaching. It was an honour to present it with the German School Abroad certificate of excellence, signed by German President Steinmeier. Congratulations to all the dedicated staff for their inspirational work!

It was a great honour to attend the Liberation Day celebrations in Jersey this year, on the 81st anniversary of the end of German occupation.   Germany is truly grateful for the friendship of the people of Jersey as well as all the Channel Islands.

Today’s fragile world shows why close 🇪🇺🇬🇧 ties, from defence to economic security to mobility, are in the interests of all our citizens. The EU, its member states & the UK can only tackle global challenges jointly. That's why the 🇪🇺🇬🇧 reset is of strategic importance! #EuropeDay

In Guernsey, we discussed 🇩🇪🇬🇬 ties - past and present. One year after Biberach & Guernsey signed the Framework of Friendship Arrangement, it's good to see lively exchange between young musicians. At the German military cemetery I laid a wreath in memory of those buried there.

I am visiting the Channel Islands of Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey, as they celebrate their liberation from German occupation 81 years ago. I started my journey in Alderney. Many thanks to William Tate, President of the States of Alderney and his wife, for the hospitality.
