The first Powerful Owlet of the season! When @lucyparkerpaul.bsky.social and I first heard the Owlet trilling from the hollow we were so not expecting it we thought "What's that sound that sounds like an Owlet trilling?". It'll likely be another month and a half before it comes out of the hollow.

When we saw this Powerful Owl roosting near the hollow we assumed it was the male. On closer inspection the 'nibbled' feathers suggest female. All the Powls we follow are at different stages. Some are still investigating hollows, some have just gone in, and tonight we heard the 1st chick trilling!

First pair of the season in a hollow! Powls only use hollows when breeding, so this pair is on again! At dusk the male called quietly until she joined him and we watched as he delicately fed her. After some allopreening and wing stretches, she returned to the hollow. Exciting times! #birds #wildoz
