1/3 Seems very similar to the push here to a “Back to Basics” approach. Teaching math is not the same as teaching reading. Kids begin mathematizing their world as infants. While many kids are ready to before starting school, they’re not reading. #iteachmath #mathsky #edusky

An activity I often lead in with is something I call “Learning for Joy”. We introduce ourselves and then share something about our identity. Most describe themselves using titles, though I encourage groups to use language that gets to the essence of their core identity. #mathsky #iteachmath #edusky

Visited school today a high MLL (multilingual learner) population. Pairing oral instructions with visual supports as well as shape recognition in one’s first language are two strategies educators can use to support learners with accessing content and curriculum. #iteachmath #mathsky #edusky

If nothing else, a Building Thinking Classrooms approach supports with making math more accessible for students and teachers in a field (K-12 math) that has by and large made math inaccessible for most. I see myself in both the student and teacher group. #iteachmath #mathsky
