Me: "Don't forget your coffee." Husband, putting on a Sherlock Holmes costume: "A day without coffee is simply ... night." Me: "Whether you want it to be or not." Him: "Precisely, my dear."
It was never properly explained - interference from Q was a common suggestion - but for a standard day, regardless of what drink you ordered from a replicator, on any Starfleet ship, it would serve the same thing: Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
I want to gripe about how cold it is today, but I suspect that complaining about a chilly October day in California is like Legolas declaring that a dozen drinks have affected him because his fingers are tingling slightly. Not a lot of sympathy, really.
Once again doing psychological judo to myself by knocking the small annoying things off the to-do list, while pretending I'm avoiding the big things. Take that, procrastination.
I would love to be able to tell my phone's autocorrect which things it has wrong. I will most likely never write "fir," for example. And "ypu" isn't a word. It's just a typo I make often enough that autocorrect gave up. And anytime my finger strays upward enough to hit a number, that is WRONG.
It's fun to read stories I wrote a while back and forgot about. Amused by this alien being grossed out by potatoes, and the human calling them "dirty dirty root food" (which can be used for many delicious things).
RIP my cool Halloween shirt. The cat just utterly destroyed it while trying to claw her way out of going to the vet. 😥
Child, after hearing a math problem with his name in it: "Why do I have so many watermelons??" Me: "Good question." Husband, the history teacher: "Because you have a catapult." Me: "Great answer."
The view outside: ivy, morning glories, and a squirrel with a giant acorn in its mouth. Hard to go wrong there.
Pausing mid-paragraph to go look up elephant noises, as you do. When you're writing about aliens and want to describe their language properly.
OUT: robots calling people "meat bags" IN: whatever this is
local hardware store invents creative new insult: welcome to fall, leaf bags
I'm sure glad I keep notes on how to do all the things I don't do often. Like making a printable brochure thingy that has to be printed sideways, with two pages of text per paper page. There are probably several ways to do it, but that was nice and fast. Thanks, Past Me!
I love a good brain hack. Stressing about writing something important? Wander around doing chores while idly thinking about what a good opening line would be. When you've got one, grab your phone and email it to yourself. Then keep going, with sentences following each other cuz it's easy now.
Co-signed! That’s what libraries are for, and they do pay us! Never apologize!
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
"We should mow the carpet today," I said, not realizing that was very much the wrong word, despite the fact that the carpet is green.
Still entertained by using undignified names for things in the notes for something no one else has read yet. Yep, I'm referring to the terrifying villains as Flapjacks because they're a species of alien that looks like a flat sea creature. And because they would hate that. #AmWriting
Relics of the modern age: old documents on my computer from before I got my newest laptop, which are oddly small when I open them, because the old laptop was an inch smaller. They reached the top of THAT screen.
Today's best typo has led to a cyberpunk version of a fairy godmother: the Hologran. Now I want to write about her instead of the story I'm in the middle of. #FunWithTypos
Not entirely sure how to put this thought to text but it’s weird to me that the people who are so adamant about how LLMs/genAI are thinking feeling persons no different than human intelligence are also the people who are super excited about making them replace all human jobs for no pay.
"Something smells good. I think there's a restaurant in airshot." "Airshot?" "That's totally a word. Like earshot." "Sure it is." "It is now, dang it."
Me: "Wow, it's cold. Glad I've got my fuzzy sweater." Cat: "I REQUIRE SNUGGLES OR I MAY PERISH."
Wow, time to complain about the weather, I guess. Today is a 30-degree drop from last week. Gonna have to dig out warmer clothes.
Dagnabbit, made a joke about a song and now it's stuck in my head. I shouldn't be surprised.
Gotta love writing too many O's in the term "pop star." I definitely don't want to know what a poop star would be. #FunWithTypos
This is a timeless demonstration, and always worth sharing.

Them: "Registration for the book fair will open at 8:00! It sells out quickly, so you'll want to be prompt!" Me: *ready before 8:00* Me: *still ready at 8:00* Me: *still ready at 8:08* Me: *resisting the urge to pester someone official about it* Me: *refreshes page again*
