"It is not the the reader or viewer’s job to supply the causal context an article leaves out. To place media literacy as the solution would concede to the idea that reporting will not improve. It is editors & correspondents who have the capacity to responsibly tell the #climate story..."

Wildfires: why media coverage doesn’t always make the climate connection

A wildfire can be explained by today’s barbecue, yesterday’s wind direction, a dry spring, four decades of land use change, or a century of emissions.

What links European farmed salmon to Spanish winter tomatoes? Overfishing in West Africa for salmon feed has collapsed local fisheries, driving often fatal human migration to Spain, where displaced workers then face exploitation in Almería's greenhouses. bit.ly/4fVciGZ #EdibleEmpire #FoodSystems

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures. Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025." In ONE year. The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.

NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

a chart showing google's rising energy consumption - huge, and rising faster than ever before

My latest blog on evidence synthesis in ecology. We often see reviews that claim to have followed PRISMA. But PRISMA is not a conduct guide but a reporting guideline. Why does this matter? Have a read and find out! «PRISMA is not the method you are looking for». drmattg.github.io/Uncertain_Ec...

Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted by academics suggesting that AI can do the reading and writing for you. At a certain point, what you're bragging about is fraud. And in a broader sense, what you're contributing to is the erosion of knowledge and the destruction of trust in academic publishing.

This is a straight up plug, but... If you're curious about what this felt like & exactly what led up to it, I have a chapter in 'Scientists on Survival' where I recount the details. Available in paperback - www.mombooks.com/book/scienti... Or as audiobook- www.audible.co.uk/pd/B0FCMVC437
