TL;DR: 1 am essentially done with this project for the foreseeable future.
Server has had all notifications turned off, and has been placed in a folder to be mostly ignored.
After the recent chief chats and demo showcase, and having a few days to think everything over, pretty much any hope I had in this project is gone. The last 6 months have apparently been used to throw out nearly all existing work on the project, in order to show off an Al conversion system for Firefall terrain. Almost nothing shown off in the demo has any impact whatsoever on THIS project, outside of perhaps a large, completely empty planet. There was zero evidence of the new engine speeding anything up for new assets, or that it would even really work properly for assets that didn't come from old Firefall game files.
The website is almost entirely meaningless, misleading information. Only 6 months spent to reproduce 3 years and $5 million of work! Except no, not really, because the new engine didn't create any of that from scratch. You didn't have to spend time designing assets and laying them out, you didn't have to spend time coming up with ideas for new areas. You "bought" an asset pack and imported it into the engine, and it took 6 months to do so.
1.3 million lines of code generated! 900,000 lines of code pared down to streamline everything! Except, again, not really. You used the existing code of a complete game to generate most of that 1.3 million lines. And since that likely included the entire code base, of course you can throw out most of it, because the demo only needed terrain code. Removing hundreds of thousands of lines of code is not that hard when you can identify and delete entire files that are non-relevant to terrain.

The new engine might very well be faster in some ways. It might work for new assets. It also very well might not work, once you stop using the old Firefall code. Maybe the devs have already started on actual ember work, and thus have the information to conclude that it will work - BUT WE SEE NO EVIDENCE OF THAT.
The underlying tech is fairly interesting, and I could see it being useful in other ways. But as far as this project goes? So far it seems like a lot of time wasted, and a lot of previous work wasted (including all those months of converting from unreal 4 to 5, which was already supposed to speed things up and future-proof the game). Overall, this just strikes me as more mismanagement of the project, beyond the vast amount of mismanagement we ve already seen.
I do hope the engine ends up working, and speeding things up. While not as much as some people, I've put more money into this project than I've spent on pretty much any game outside of long-term subscription MMOs. I do want it to succeed. But nothing that I can see warrants any belief in it doing SO.
Grumm already has a multitude of detractors, as does the project itself.
Even before the heavy use of Al, if it was to see a release on Steam, I would have put good odds on it getting a 'mixed' rating at best. The decision to use Al so heavily will likely see the rating get murdered on Steam, especially if the game isn't 100% perfect (which, y'know, is basically impossible).

I'd argue that, for the metrics, it's vastly MORE important that viewers turn this off. There's more viewers than streamers, so even if every streamer turned this off, if viewers don't, the executives can still claim that "most users don't care" and cram it down our throats even harder. Opt out.

a great dissection of why a lot of fandom drama doesn't only boil down to "these people are thinking too much about [insert series here] and need to touch grass." there's another layer to the way folks get obsessed (for parasocial/self-important rewriting/clout reasons, etc) that gets glossed over

one big thing i think people outside fandom (like, all fandoms, fandom in general, not any particular one) tend to misunderstand is they know it's a subculture of people who are weirdly deeply invested in fictional media, and they hear about drama caused by people in those subcultures being unhinged in not-fun ways, and they think the unhingedness comes from the fact of being overinvested in works of fiction.

which is a natural assumption, but in my experience that's not really the case? like in my experience the drama llamas in fandom are usually not the ones who are just genuinely very deeply into the fiction. i've known people who are basically thinking about star trek or x-men comics or supernatural pretty much 100% of their free time and ime that type of person is usually very nice and surprisingly functional in their regular life. when someone's a constant nexus of fandom drama it's usually not that they are obsessed with the actual work of fiction the fandom is about, it's at least one of the following:

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but their unhealthy parasocial relationships with one or more of the people who created it

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but some elaborate shared-universe subset of fanfic about it that's only barely related to the original at this point, and/or an esoteric reading-against-the-text reinterpretation of the source material (often if the canon is active and ongoing this leads to becoming actively hostile toward it for its inevitably increasing failure to conform to their preferred fanon)

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but the fandom itself and gathering clout within it, so that the source material basically only exists to them as a tool for scoring points in increasingly arcane fandom disputes

and very often you get the same person doing 2 and sometimes even all 3 of these, and that's where the trouble really starts.
