I rewatched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) for the first time since I saw it on grainy VHS in 1990. The sunlight, the sweat, the foreboding hum of a distant generator - turns out it is one of most beautifully-shot films of its time. And 80 mins long too (modern writers/directors take note).

There seems to be some deserved buzz around the reissue of The Devils (1971), easily one of my favourite films. (In fact, the picture of Urbain Grandier hangs on our bathroom wall.) I urge everyone to go watch this Huxley/Russell/Reed/Jarman/Redgrave combo - for the set designs alone....
No one actually knows why the clocks go back - only that choosing to have shorter, darker days in winter is a very English thing to do.
