My partner @lunymoongames.bsky.social just managed to get this picture of two baby wood pigeons that are outside our window in our elder tree in the back garden! 🥹 I noticed two pigeons nesting there over a month ago, and I haven't seen the babies yet, but my daughter and partner have. 🥰

I spend the last three days building a trike for my daughter, and it was agonising and took forever.. there were even missing and broken pieces, but she just managed to go up and down the street, so worth it :)

Although I almost put my hairbrush in my mouth thinking it was my cereal spoon... 😅

It's a really satisfying feeling when you write a complex utility function that saves you tons of work converting old data into new data, and it working first try without any issues. Just saved myself hours of head-scratching and double-checking. And all that without coffee to start the day with! :O

I also simplified the running mechanic for Benji. I could do that because the world is linear going forward anyway, so it makes that a lot easier. Many subtle optimisations later, and the feel of the game is gonna be improved drastically. Going diagonally doesn't slow Benji down anymore it seems :3

Completely overlooked the fact that two days ago, it was the 4 year anniversary of when I started on this project.. It's been a tough journey with two herniated discs, health scares and the like.. can't believe it's been that long already. I'm currently still pumped full with pain-killers too >

I'm making leaps and bounds with progress on Benji 1.7. :) It's a massive undertaking because I've been making the code even more optimised than it was. :') Benji is becoming super lightweight for many devices so it should be easy to play!

Got some good news as well yesterday. I'm getting my 'pre-appointment' for my surgery next month, and normally that means my surgery isn't too far away either! Hopefully before Halloween I'll have had my surgery and will be pain-free!! 🤞 The pain meds make devving super difficult 😮‍💨

Also today our anniversary gift came in, luckily on time too :3 got a XP Pen display tablet which will help in future projects and also just to draw :D Delivery was funny though. I stood in the kitchen thinking 'I wonder if it'll be delivered today' and two seconds later "hello, delivery!" 🫪

Luckily the damage has been minimal. I managed to get the basics back in and all that's left now is remaking the donck's source code and refactoring the entire path generation mechanic from scratch again.. ugh. Well. I'm glad everything went somewhat ok. Setting up version control tomorrow again XD

I'm glad I made backups after my version control app stopped working. I've pasted my old source code back in, and made some essential refactors since my data tables rely on the new structs I lost. If all that got lost I would have to recreate every level perfectly.. which would be a nightmare :O

I thought I'll prepare myself to work again on Benji. and I went to look at my code. Found out all my code is gone. The entire Source folder.. gone... not even in the bin. Luckily I made back-ups, but it does mean that all my work for 1.7 needs to be redone completely :(

My head's a mess on my pain meds. I want to work on Benji as I genuinely enjoy it, so why is it so hard to commit to it 😩

Forgot to make a follow-up post. I've been back since Friday afternoon. Sat 14 hours in the waiting room to be told they can't operate on me still and included yet another pill for me to take in the meantime to "relax my nervous system" 😩 I'm tired of pills and morphine, they mess my head up 😮‍💨

I can never go back to regular kiwis after discovering Sungold variety. 🤤

It's been 10 months since I herniated my disc and now it's gotten so bad it might create irreversible damage, so I've called an ambulance to get me to A&E. Hopefully I won't be sent off again, and they get me fixed up. It's been so long since I've been pain-free 😔

The foundational mechanics of the Donck have been programmed in :3 They'll simply walk left and right with different speeds, distances etc. and they will move along the terrain too! I "reinvented the wheel" by making my own 'character class' to keep a lot of overhead out :3 #indiedev #gamedev

My pain medication is driving me insane but it makes my pain just about "manageable". I really want to get back into things but I have huge mental block and no energy 😮‍💨... I basically have a sort of ADHD from the pills and I can honestly say: respec 🫠
