This has been an open secret in Australia for some time, with the federal government going to great lengths to *appear* as if they have effective climate policy, while rubber stamping mine after mine. It's disgraceful, and they are not held to account for it.

Prof Ian Hall@ianhall.bsky.social · last mo.

The planning contradiction is impressively neat: it accepts that 809Mt of GHG emissions will worsen global warming. It says leaving the coal in the ground would make a difference …then approves the mine anyway. Climate science only matters up until the decision. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This is a much bigger problem than the ABC report indicates. This homophobe is not a "failed candidate" yet. If either One Nation MLC quits parliament, dies or is disqualified in this term, then he will be elected. #wapol www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08...

I know we don't have an approved mammal-specific H5N1 vaccine ready for native mammals, my question is _why_? Why has this not been made a high priority, given we've had _years_ and many of Australia's threatened, range-restricted mammal species are at risk? thenightly.com.au/australia/h5...

Mammals ‘highly vulnerable’, should be vaccinated: expert

Zorro rarely misses an opportunity to hop up onto anything that will give him an altitude upgrade, but as soon as you ask him to do it, his passion project magically converts to a profit-focussed side-hustle 🦴🐶 🍪

Somewhat resentfully back at work after two weeks off, with a lurgy I must’ve picked up on the plane 🤧Fortunately, my co-woofers have a much better attitude to work this week than I do

Zorro had to have a little operation a few days ago to deal with a small lump under his eyelid. He’s taking to “confinement” and effectively zero exercise exactly as well as you might expect 💥📣🐕

This Wednesday 15th April, I will have the absolute delight of chatting with the one and only Trace Balla at Fullers Bookshop in nipaluna/Hobart about her new graphic memoir, “Treeshape” 🌳📚💚 I know Trace's books are important to many of you, so wondered what *you* would like to hear her talk about?

White text on a graphic novel illustration which shows some people sitting around a campfire having a lovely time near their tents with a big tree in the background and a super imposed image of fern fronds. Text on the image says: introducing Treeshape. A graphic novel for ages 10 adult by Trace Balla. Come along to a conversation with Trace and Nic Gill at the Afterword cafe Fullers Bookshop, 131 Collins Street Hobart, four till 5 pm Wednesday, April 15. Sales signings online bookings Fullers or trace balla.com.

Yesssterday, we had an unexpected visitor in our garden. This is a juvenile tiger snake, likely one to two years old. Her slightly frosty-looking colouration apparently indicates that she is likely soon to shed her skin 🐍 ❄️

It’s been a year of sometimes precipitous ups and downs, but one of the definite ups has been beginning to work professionally with the lovely Sarah McKenzie! Not only is she a very smart and supportive agent, she also has excellent taste in Christmas cards - thanks for everything Sarah! 📕 ✍️ 😇 📚

Three black and white dogs look slightly seriously the camera, flanking a cheerful Christmas card covered in festive dogs that says Merry Christmas on the frontSame as the other photo, but taken from a slightly higher angle

Delighted to be the incoming President for the Australasian Conservation Dog Network (ACDN)! 🐕‍🦺 Today, the dogs and I celebrated these new responsibilities by heading into the field to sniff out random animal body parts, and by playing a little scat hide’n’seek 🐦 🦇 💩
