I was not expecting the person named to be dead. It wasn't even a consideration in my head when the house was mentioned. Great job there.

2/2 This is horror, so there are one or two disturbing scenes, so don't go in thinking you're getting Victoria Holt, but the writing is fantastic and the story stays with you. Highly recommended.

In many ways it hews closer to Walpole and Lewis than later Victorian Gothics, and it has some great characters.

Only problem is @jonathanjanz.bsky.social hasn’t written the sequel yet. So if you like aliens and spooky stories and hella action and incredibly well built characters check out Veil. It’s truly incredible.
This is such a wicked article and full of awesome-looking new releases. I'm honored that MARLA is in here. Its release date recently got bumped to August, but the description in here is absolutely spot-on and killer!
