OSINT Switzerland

@osintswitzerland.bsky.social

An association for experts, practitioners, and learners with the shared goal of developing and expanding their knowledge of open-source intelligence techniques. https://osintswitzerland.ch/

🕵🏻 More than 20 engaged OSINTers joined last week’s Playdate to take on the brilliant challenges created by Sofia Santos for the Bellingcat anniversary, and they nailed it! 🙌 A huge thank you to CYREN ZH! Looking forward to seeing many of you (and hopefully some new faces) at the next one!

🎉 We’re thrilled to welcome Loránd Bodó to our Advisory Board! Loránd is a well-respected name in the OSINT world, not only for his expertise in researching violent extremist and terrorist entities online, but also for his engagement in the OSINT community. Welcome aboard, Loránd!

🕵🏻‍♀️ Last Saturday it was time for another Trace Labs OSINT Search Party! Three teams of OSINT Switzerland members were able to participate. 🙏 We would like to thank everyone who was able to use their OSINT skills for a good cause. Here is a brief summary of how our teams performed!

🕵🏻 Yesterday we had our first General Assembly and it was amazing to reconnect with our members. We discussed and presented several topics about what has happened so far and what will happen in the near future of OSINT Switzerland.

Bild

The next Trace Labs will take place on 19th April at 16:00. 🚨 Members of our association will have the opportunity to attend a briefing session on Discord at 15:00. We'll be sharing tips and tricks on how to be more effective during the competition and make a greater contribution to a good cause.

We found that all images sent via LinkedIn messages still contain the original metadata. From now on, keep in mind that: 👉 When you send a picture to a LinkedIn contact, the message may contain more details and information than you actually want!

Together with CYREN ZH we're introducing a series of OSINT playdates throughout the year. The exercises will focus on solving, exchanging different approaches, techniques, and best practices, and of course, to meet likeminded OSINTers.

🕵🏻 We found a way to identify scheduled post on LinkedIn. All you need is for the post to contain an image, video or other type of document. ● Extract upload date of image/video included into the post ● Extract the date and time of the post ● If the dates are very different, it is a scheduled post

Bild

We discovered a way to find out the date when a profile picture was last uploaded or edited: ● Right-click on the image ● Save the image ● Parse the filename into a Unix timestamp Even more fascinating is that this technique allows you to extract the exact date when any type of media was uploaded

Bild

🔎 We stumbled across a technique that allows to extract the exact date and time of a LinkedIn post on ● Get the post ID from the URL ● Convert the post ID to binary ● Convert the 41 "left-most" bits of the binary back to decimal ● Parse the decimal into a Unix Timestamp. ● That's it!

We would like to thank everyone who attended our first OSINT Intro Workshop. We enjoyed solving challenges with you and meeting some of you in person for the first time! We would also like to thank CYREN ZH for the opportunity to hold the workshop in such a beautiful location and for the support!

Bild

All places for the first hands-on workshop are SOLD OUT! For our members and CYREN ZH students, it's still possible to attend via the Discord member space stage. We're really excited and can't wait to meet you. We will learn from each other and solve some tricky challenges together. See you there!

🕵🏻 As OSINTers, we are constantly learning new methods of gathering and deriving additional information in different ways. It's always important to test the effectiveness and correctness of the technique on test data (i.e. a fake account) where you know what the expected result should be.

🕵🏻 The mystery is solved and X-Mas is saved, thanks to over 500 participants! It was a wild ride chasing a thief around the globe using only critical thinking and OSINT techniques. It took a lot of skill, perseverance and dedication.

🎅🏻 The race is still open as we enter the final stage of our Santa CTF. What a run! The contestant had to learn and use several different OSINT techniques in the last weeks and think outside the box to get closer to the thief!

🚨 Join us for an Exclusive Hands-On OSINT Workshop! 📅 January 31st, 2025 - 14:00 to 17:00 👥 Who’s It For: Members of OSINT Switzerland and students of CYREN ZH 📍Rämistrasse 69, 8001 Zürich & Streamed Online
