I was talking with my parents about when it might be time for me to explore jobs outside of academia, and was quite surprised to hear my dad, who's relatively well informed, say, "but can't you just stick it out until 2028 and everything will go back to normal?"

from 1941-1957, a somewhat secret bombing range was established in Big Bog in Northern Minnesota. The weirdest element was "Operation Woosh" (47-51) which had the goal "to produce wallowing holes for moose to help them find refuge from biting insects."
