And we’ll get further still when we fully absorb the fact that Republicans are keepers of the slavery and segregation flame, that their political exile is imperative, and that only a new foundation built upon reparations for the sins of white supremacy will carry us past American fascism.

We might get somewhere as a nation if we realize that each new calamitous Republican administration is an extension of, and not a departure from, the prior one.

No taste, no style, no morals, no imagination, no soul, no spirit. The modern day Republican is a ghastly thing indeed; a sour, childish abuser, jumping from one pitiful tantrum to the next, putting all that is worth cherishing out of business. Get them the hell out of here.

If you find yourself living your normal life today, whatever that entails, instead of being sick, or sheltering in place, or dead, it’s because of vaccines. If you can’t grasp that basic fact and chafe against it, you are a fool.

An organic, righteous, and just movement to address the avalanche of harms that generation after generation of white supremacist ideology has inflicted on the world (quite literally destroying the earth) was met with revulsion by those who benefit from its existence and want to keep its contours...

The assertion that "powerful cultural institutions" and the Democratic Party "treated more tradition-minded Americans as evil or backward" has become such a cliche in the punditry that people who say this feel no need to offer examples (or a single example) and journalists rarely ask them to do so.

Slade: I’ll be honest with you: Broad swaths of the American electorate, including members of some demographics that were once solid Democratic constituencies, came to feel extraordinarily resentful that both the Democratic Party and a lot of powerful cultural institutions (higher education, the mainstream media) were going all in on a sort of militant identity politics that treated more tradition-minded Americans as evil or backward.

This created a real siege mentality, where people were inclined to throw their lot in with someone whom they perceived as on their side and who said he would fight the forces that were hostile to them.

Nothing good is fixed, until the Supreme Court is. Leaders may not want to go there, because court expansion is not easy to deliver, but they have to understand, and get the public to understand, that this is one of those things that you just have to keep trying and failing at until the job is done.

The US SecDef is a sadistic, bloodthirsty bigot with juvenile (at best) delusions of grandeur, who thinks all Iranians (at least) should die. This is a nightmare that Republicans, of equally debased character, insist on foisting upon the world. Jail or exile for the entire lot.

Accepting anything less than the abolition of ICE is tacit support for the idea that at least some number of our fellow residents warrant being patrolled, harassed, kidnapped, or murdered, a morally heinous position unworthy of a decent people and party.
