Raymond E. Feist

Writer, football geek, whisky nerd, fan of graciousness.

So I've been working on the next project a while without a title. As I plotted along, in my head I got to a point of anticipating a scene I may not write for a while (writers do that) because knowing where you're going keeps you on course (writers often need that, else we go a'wandering.) (2)

Book titles are odd things. Some are obvious and others hide until the author hits a point in the work where it suddenly presents itself. My first book's working title was Riftwar. My editor thought it was "Too Science Fiction sounding for a fantasy novel." (1)

Haven't been around all that much due to, in part, real life (don't try to move furniture at 79; only your brain thinks it's 25; the rest of your body disagrees), as well as some other commitments. Throw in the usual old guy resistance to change and there you have it. I will attempt to do better.

I am very pleased to share the news that the Empire Series co-authored by Janny Wurts and myself will be translated into,Arabic. Al Amal Al Kubra in Saudi Arabia has secured the world language rights so this is a huge entry into that market. No details beyond that.

Left hand is now as good as it’s going to get, given arthritis, so back to work. (Mom, do I gotta get out of bed? I don’t wanna go to school! It’s cold outside!). Anyway, as there are holidays all over the place from the end of November to late January, Happy Holidays!

No news, but a recap. Six Studio is still involved with developing both the Riftwar and Empire series in TV and film projects. I did something stupid and screwed up my left hand, so no progress on the next book. But life goes on. Safe travel everyone and enjoy the holiday.

There seems to be a flood of folks coming aboard. Time to pay more attention. No news per se, but I’ll post some info tomorrow that might have been neglected while I’ve been musing my left hand. Memo to self: not only aren’t you as fast and strong as you were at 25, Dummy, you don’t heal as fast.

After a long absence, I’ve recovered from screwing up my left hand in a fall. Memo to self: you’re not a kid anymore! Stop trying to grab stuff like you did when you were 18! In any event, hand is 90% and I can type for short periods. So, today I have only one thing to say: VOTE if you haven’t.

Sorry to again be long between posts, but real life does tend to interrupt. So, for readers in the UK, or anyone willing to pop for international shipping, Waterstones still has some singed copies left. Out in August for those who don't need my scribble. www.waterstones.com/book/a-darkn...

Hey! Sorry to be so absent, but real life, you know? A Darkness Returns, is out in August. In the UK, Waterstones is taking orders for signed copies. In the US, pre-orders at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego.

I'm not sure what the no messages thing means. Anyway, I'm here. I'm an author. If not fans, then anyone who wants to discuss writing, the business (what little I know), and how to get bulletproof in an ego shattering business.

I'll repost the links tomorrow but for my online chat will be at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. For fans South Africa, 1AM, 3AM in Perth 9AM, Sydney noon, Auckland 2PM. For the who need to sleep, work, petty stuff like that, it will be recorded and available on the site. That detail I'll provide when I have it.

The post-holidays stuff is finally wrapping up, along with unexpected distractions. I can now turn my attention back to writing the yet untitled, book 2 in the DragonWar. We also had a change in publication date of the current Volume 1, A Darkness Returns, which will now be in August.

Hello! Finally got myself over here so feel free to say hello back, and I will try to answer any question intelligently, and failing that, I'll make stuff up. (I write fiction, remember?)
