Always a trip when you change a minor part of a scene and immediately think "OH NO, HOW WILL OUR INTREPID HEROES ESCAPE THIS DISASTER?!" So much fun hahah. REALLY excited about the last few chapters now. Thinking it'll top out at about 140-145,000 words total.

Every time it happens, I'm always and inevitably amazed by how much we (I) rely on internet service for day-to-day tasks. My ISP went down this morning and JUST come back on—so I've been pretty much unable to accomplish anything work-related. Looks like I'll be putting in some after-hours hours

My understanding is that publishing rates for illustration largely hasn’t changed in 100 years. I don’t mean that it kept up with inflation, I mean that after the camera came along the rates did not increase over the next 100 years. And those were the GOOD jobs. Many places paid less.

These are spreads for McCall's magazine by Andy Virgil, 1959. Each spread was paying about $1,500 at that time. Today that would be between $9,000-$12,000. The average price of a brand new car in 1959 was $2,200.

Probably THE formative reading experience of my youth. Wendy made me want to become an artist, and over the years I've tracked down a full run of all the original issues (as well as the BEAUTIFULLY-painted Donner editions). I always, always recommend this series to anyone and everyone.
