Basically all European states have financial issues and basically all are discussing (further) restricting social services/support/etc for the wealthier. See UK re childcare above £100 000. I totally get it. However: we need to acknowledge that this is creating a social contract problem.

As I keep saying, when people finally figure this out, join is dead before it begins. I don’t see 🇬🇧 (as it currently is) accepting 💶 or Schengen.
Well thanks for that feedback *EU source* - "yes we all say we support the UK returning, but if you think you're getting a single opt-out of anything, forget it..."

They just might be sort of getting it. Although it's quite something to hear from a founder of Vote Leave that his part of the Right stands for truth.
And so the fall out begins. They’re going to make themselves political pariahs, no one will touch them with a barge pole in mainstream politics.
It is important that the German Greens directly reject the UK Green Party’s resolution titled "Zionism is Racism" and welcome the suspension of its voting rights within the European Green Party. It‘s urgently necessary for the @europeangreens.eu to distance itself from the UK Green Party’s position.

I think the greens have just killed any chance of proportional representation getting through. Now it’s clear the party has been taken over by the Corbyn cranks, there’s a clear argument against having coalitions with extremist parties on left and right.
passing the "zionism is racism" motion on the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street is a bit on the fucking nose isn't it
Could not agree with this more. The UK tax system is but one area that holds the country back, ridiculously complex and non sensical that actively punishes those who try to better themselves.
The Tories are right to pledge to scrap the £100k childcare trap – and Labour should have acted first (as I wrote here). It’s not progressive for workers to be left tens of thousands of pounds worse off when they take on a promotion or more hours. www.arguably.uk/p/britain-ca...

Britain can’t afford the £100k cliff edge
High marginal rates are penalising work rather than rewarding it

I can foresee now that this could easily lead to a PLP win in a 2029 election and a vote join loss, in say 2032, at a referendum. The blithe belief on this site by a lot of accounts that it’s all clear sailing and will inevitably lead to a win at referendum is going to be the undoing of join.
We're going to get a lot of this. And we should take the numbers with an enormous dollop of salt. The negotiations would be tough, the terms less favourable than those we rejected in 2016. These numbers will move ' however 'mega' the poll! www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

Hammering it into an open goal like Jude Bellingham against a team of 12-year-olds.
The pension conversation has turned, yet again, into Netflix and avocados. A quick thing though. Netflix: £20.99pm / £251.88pa Avo: 0.69p an avo - so £251pa if you had an avo every day. So, just over £500 a year Average 10% deposit? £27,300. So just 54 years to save there FFS.
For those in doubt there’s poll after poll showing regret for Brexit no doubt. That doesn’t mean tacit support for join. Quite the opposite. When euro and Schengen are mentioned support collapses. The latest poll is here : bsky.app/profile/brit...
Show me the poll that people want to keep Brexit. Remember ‘they need us more than we need them’? Remember the trade deals with Australia and NZ? The one that sold out the farmers? Or that the Brexit would allow the UK have higher environmental standards. Now you dump poop in your waters.

Totally agree with this. It’ll be a simple as a 3 word campaign. Tell them again…. I don’t think they’re prepared at all to fight this and it’ll ultimately kill getting closer for another couple of decades. A lot of the join brigade are going to do more harm than good imv
The PM has fired the starting gun on the rejoin debate, 22% of electorate are undecided and there’s lot of evidence that the Rejoin side is much less sure of its arguments, and much less prepared for the debate, than Stay Out

As I keep saying to the ridiculously hopeful on this site. It’s not happening, join/pro 🇪🇺 are sleep walking into a massive defeat just like in 2016. 🤦♂️
If you're in my GP's office any time soon, prepare yourself for what many are calling the greatest mnemonic of all time. Come for E and P, but sit down and clap for I.
My Oct 1st 2026 prediction of next Labour manifesto on Brexit - Brexit has done more harm than good. - We want to repair damage: closer deal - but avoid past divides. - UK should negotiate to join single market. - We would not rejoin EU without a referendum + we won't hold that in this parliament.
Current hysteria on 🦋 about joining EU pretty telling of how this house of cards is going to collapse the moment it comes in touch with reality….. I’m looking forward to seeing the fallout when it starts to sink in.
If Andy Burnham did put Rejoin in the 2028/2029 Labour manifesto, won, and then called a referendum in 2032-2034 with Labour campaigning for Rejoin, I'd put money on Rejoin losing [unless miraculously the exact same terms were offered as existed in 2016]. The Right would then revive. Sorry.
the most important story in the world keeps getting a bit important-er
The bond yield story just keeps getting starker.
We should be proud that being British is something that unites people regardless of their skin colour. If today’s parties of the right want a backward-facing, exclusionary patriotism – Labour will fight against them, and we’ll win.
