ICE just spent $1.5 BILLION to purchase two massive prisons in California it was already using for detention, in an effort to avoid oversight from the state, which has been pressuring the private prison company that owned them. CoreCivic will continue operating the facilities.

CoreCivic said it anticipates that the sale of the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego County and the California City Detention Facility in Kern County will bring the company an estimated net proceeds of approximately $1.1 billion.
The sale closed on July 2, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, with the federal government paying $739.2 million for the 1994-bed Otay Mesa facility and $732.6 million for the newly-opened 2,560-bed California City facility. The two properties were sold under separate purchase agreements, signed and completed on the same day.

Just your periodic reminder from a journo that when you’re in ICE detention and/or CDCR and they say they might be recording your calls, THEY ARE RECORDING YOUR CALLS

Ok so they’re really really really gonna start enforcing the Real ID, y’all. Feb 1. If you have a passport card though or passport book, you’re OK via @TravelGov

Me explaining to my future husband how it’s not true that you can’t just leave church spaghetti sitting out on the stove all night. If that were true, all of Texas would already be dead, luv. 😘✌🏽

I’m just gonna note here that my mom still does not think it’s funny that I hid a whole human being (my bestie) in our own house for several weeks completely undetected like the wanna be CIA agent that I am. That’s how little our parents paid attention in the 90’s.

Immigration rights activist Jeannette Vizguerra-Ramirez was released yesterday from a for-profit GEO Immigration Detention Center in Denver. A federal immigration judge ordered her release on bond after finding that the Department of Homeland Security failed to justify her continued detention.

CA Attorney General Rob Bonta finds unsafe and unsanitary conditions at the newly opened California City ICE detention center run by CoreCivic. CoreCivic has said they're following all fed regs. DOJ staff finds some detainees have to spend 23-24 hours a day in their housing unit.

“The corrections department also provides ICE with information that helps the agency locate, arrest, and deport people who are not directly transferred. CalMatters obtained and reviewed more than 27,000 pages of emails between state prison employees and ICE.“ calmatters.org/justice/2025...

'We may be deporting the wrong people': New poll shows doubts about immigration crackdown

A new poll shared exclusively with CalMatters adds to a slate of recent surveys suggesting Californians’ support is waning for Trump’s harshest immigration enforcement policies.

Oh man. Me and Cubby. This is a memory worth keeping. I channeled my old Politically Speaking poetry scripts for our @LatinoUSA podcast writing several weeks ago.
