Tis the season for praline-topped apple bread! Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. 1/2 the sugar in the batter - plenty of sweetness in the topping. 8x8 pan instead of loaf pan to improve topping-to-bread/cake ratio when eating it. 🍁🍎🍁

Square apple bread/cake on a white plate with butter/brown sugar praline on the top and dripping down the sides. The plate is on a granite-like countertop.

Today is Ohio Pint Day - which I have not heard of before. But I saw breweries were going to have these pretty glasses! The one near me opens at 4 on Tuesdays so I got there soon after they opened. (Paper towel inside the glass to show the design.)

Three views of a special beer glass to celebrate craft breweries in Ohio. The clear glass is decorated in black and gold - stylized feathers; a person with an arm extended, holding a glass; the shape of the state with “drink beer made here” on it; and a rectangle that says “Ohio craft beer.”

A bit beaten down by the week so I went to Blooming Roots Farm and got a $20 bouquet off the flower wagon in their yard. Their flowers are always beautiful!

A mixed flower bouquet of dahlias, zinnias, other flowers, and vegetation in a glass vase. The vase is on a wood side table with a small bowl with a dragonfly in the bottom and a white handblown conch shell with gray highlights.

I actually have something for #FOFriday this week! 🤍 Pattern is Dane Shawl by Jane Tanner. (Free pattern on Ravelry) 🧶 is my mom’s handspun. I’ll give it to her for her birthday next month.

A finished white lace shawl pinned out on gray blocking mats. The yarn is handspun from Romney fleece. Spun in 1999 by my mom.

Sharing this Taylor (from Berroco #221 Simple Pleasures) for #ShowMeYourKnits SCARVES week! We used to always go to Hilton Head for Thanksgiving. I always stopped in the yarn/book store to see what was new. One year, I bought the booklet and yarn for this!

A multicolored long scarf photographed on a metal bench on a concrete patio. The main colors are purples, black, and a little red. A large number of stitches are cast on and the scarf is knitted from side to side. Many of the yarns are eyelash or have sequins. Yarns are held double and the ends are left long to serve as fringe.

What’s on your needles for #ShowMeYourKnits - Had cast on with gray handspun but wasn’t happy the pattern was showing up. So I cast on with some natural handspun yesterday and think this will be okay. Pattern is Dane Shawl, free on Ravelry. 🧶 spun by my mom in 1999. Will be a gift for her #93

The beginning of a Dane Shawl with the ball of yarn, photographed on a wood table. Pattern through 28 rows. It is a traditional Danish heart-shaped shawl.
Yarn is handspun - fleece from Romney sheep owned by her friend, Roni.

I always enjoy seeing “what’s on your needles” when that’s the theme for #ShowMeYourKnits I finished this Dip3b bag cover last night and pinned it out. Some of my mom’s handspun 🧶. This is the 7th I’ve made - the finished 5th and 6th in the photo, too.

Two finished zippered bags and the cover of a third one pinned out on a gray/beige blocking mat. The bottom one is gray, white, and purple. The middle one is white, gray, and pink. Both are handspun yarns. The tope on is Mal Rios in Scorpio, Libra, and Glitter (blue/black, red, and dark gold). The top one has a dragonfly charm on the zipper pull. The bottom one has star charm on the zipper pull.

Ah, technology. August is always busy with a big project I work on for a client. The screen on the SurfacePro4, that I’ve used since 2017, started to bulge on the left edge on Friday. (Where the battery is.) I bought a new laptop a few months ago but hadn’t moved all my software. All moved now.

SurfacePro4 i5 computer photographed on wire shelving. The left edge of the screen has separated from the case and shows a 1/2” / 1.25cm gap.

Progress photo of the Anthology Throw (design by Curious Handmade). Not a lot of knitting time but I try to get some stitches in most days. I’ve not used a couple skeins - there was a green that seemed too bright compared to the colors on each side. But happy how it’s knitting up! 🧶 info in ALT text

In-progress photo of a large round throw, taken on a patio. The knitting, 576 stitches each round at this point, is scrunched up on 40”/100cm US5/3.75mm circular needles.the center is shades of red before moving to purples and then blues. A little green and then greenish gold. The yarn the 2022 Advent set in is An Caitin Dubh Deep Yak Silk.

Sweater weather is coming! #ShowMeYourKnits theme is sweaters this week. This is Perseids Cardigan. The yarn is Malabrigo Rios - colorway is Scorpio and is a mix of blues, grays, and black. i have worn this a lot - as recently as the other morning I put it on instead of clicking the heat on!

Perseids Cardigan is photographed on a concrete patio - a little dappled sunshine on the one side of the photo. Pattern is by Heidi Kirrmaier. The yarn colorway is Scorpio and is a mix of blues, grays, and black. The cardigan has an overall lace pattern including on the sleeves.

We’re doing baby knits for # ShowMeYourKnits this week! Coincidentally, I’ve just knitted two baby hats in the last couple weeks. Both are Hedgehog Fibres Sock yarn held double. Left - Rialto hat in Dark Concrete Right - Top Knot Baby Hat in Morello

Two baby hats photographed on a wood table. Both hats have small I-cord top knots. The one on the left is a mix of pinks, purples, blues, and grays and has a ribbed brim. The one on the right is a mix of reds and pinks and has a rolled brim.

I modified one of Sarah Schira’s gnome patterns to knit a fireman for my niece, a textile engineer and VP of R&D for a company that makes PPE for firefighters. I had to order the jacket yarn online and I wasn’t happy with it at first but in the end, I’m happy how he turned out. Mailed him today.

A 7 1/2”/19cm gnome that resembles a firefighter. The hat is black and had a pin that says fire and rescue in the center. The jacket is beige and the body and sleeves have stripes of yellow yarn, silver silk yarn, and yellow yarn. An icord “hose” is flemished and tucked under the one arm. The other arm has a bit of wire so it can be posed and he is holding a small gray and red ax in his hand. He is photographed on a sunny patio with a Mandevilla flower behind him.

A couple more shawl for #ShowMeYourKnits I have already posted a lot of shawls I’ve made. This is a Slumber Shawls that was folded up in the earlier photo. Starflake is another Stephen West design. And a bonus Spiderman blanket photo - because I came across it when I was looking at photos!

A medium-sized shawl spread on a concrete patio. The body of the shawl is garter stitch ridges and stockinette sections. The Feather and Fan border makes the edge ripple. The body yarn is a brownish purple with copper MadTosh single. The border yarn is DyeForYarn mohair fluff called ‘Cat’s Hairball Problem’ Two views of the Starflake shawl. The yarns are DyeForWool merino silk fingering in purplish and rose shades. It’s a very large shawl that starts like a split star and builds out with ridges and stripes. In one view, the shawl is on a dress form, showing how it looks being worn. The other view is the shawl spread out on a metal bench on a patio. A Spiderman Blanket with a red center, blue sections, and red outer sections. Ridges of black yarn separate the sections. It’s spread out on blocking mats. I sent this to my niece’s son.

SHAWLS is the #ShowMeYourKnits theme and I could post many examples. Even though I’ve given a lot away, and not including the 8-10 I keep out and wear, I have this box of shawls in my closet. I forgot about the ’Tales from the Isle of Purbeck’ I knitted with a gradient. More info in ALT text.

Front one - Pierre I overdyed after knitting.
All the Angles and two Slumber Shawls - all are Stephen West designs.
Several beaded silk lace shawls in there, too.

Knitting-adjacent items for #ShowMeYourKnits this week. I have seen a yarn bowl I covet - and I have never used a yarn bowl! Fun to see the tools people use, too. I don’t really have anything special. I do love this bag a friend sent me a few years ago. Also an update on my Anthology Throw.

A zippered bag I use as a project bag for knitting. Three magnificent birds with feathered headwear - all ready for Friday Night, as noted in writing on the front of the bag. Th photo is taken on a patio bench. In-progress photo of a large round throw, taken on a patio bench. Last fall, I made a connection with a teacher working with at-risk kids at a school in the city system. She and her mom were going to a discount grocery store so she could buy things to support the kids and their families. I gave her some money. And then each month, I gave her some money. 1/5
