We're often told that capitalism and market liberalisation are closing the gap between rich and poor countries, and the old colonial inequalities are fading. Is it true? We explored this question in a new paper, just published in NPE. Buckle up for some interesting results! 🧵

I really enjoyed working on this #Pride reading list alongside @taniamousel.bsky.social ! She deserves most of the credit, I contributed just a couple of titles, but it was great to be involved in curating such a thoughtful selection. ✊🏻🏳️‍🌈

As Luxembourg prepares for its 26th edition of #Pride festivities, we are excited to share a reading list of powerful first-person accounts that explore what it means to live authentically in the face of societal expectations, cultural norms and personal challenges. 🏳️🌈📚 👉 gd.lu/4DqR0F

Capitalism commodified the base (red), leaving us frantically scrambling from cradle to grave to secure these most basic needs by marketing/selling ourselves, often unsuccessfully. We are systematically stunted from reaching the other levels as a result.

If you were outraged by the crimes against civilians on Oct 7th but not by the many more crimes against civilians *since* Oct 7th - just this week: kids being burned from head to toe; having their limbs amputated without anesthetic - then you don’t actually care about crimes against civilians.

As footage of dead kids in Gaza fills your timeline once again, keep in mind that the reason the empire has worked so hard to stomp out all criticism of Israel’s western-backed atrocities is because our rulers planned on sponsoring way more atrocities and murdering way more kids.

ah yes dr schockmel et gi puer glécklecher déi nie musste fir e loun schaffe fir z'iwwerliewen an dofir loosse mer déi aner leit déi net genuch konnte cotiséieren a struktureller aarmut an an ofhängegkeet vu sozialleeschtungen déi zu all moment kënne wegfaalen (80% dovu fraen btw) gudden take

A new study published in the Lancet finds that life expectancy in Gaza dropped by nearly half, from 75.5 years to 40.6 years, during the first twelve months of the genocide. Apocalyptic.

Just a few years ago she called him “Saudi Arabia’s bitch” and now she’s his Director of National Intelligence. American politics is a strange, strange world.

i think people are still oblivious to how easy it is for a government official to simply lie and keep the discourse focused on said lie. especially easy at a time when confidence in legacy publishers is at an all time low and social media is actively spreading disinfo as "truth"

To be clear, I don't particularly care that Elon Musk very clearly made Nazi salutes. We've just spent 15 months watching the US empire carry out a live-streamed genocide, and Elon Musk is one of the managers of that empire. Doing Nazi salutes just puts a wrapper on the product.
