While I think a 4-year PhD is attractive for both students and employers (I was in industry/biotech and can confirm), it's still an undeniable fact that a person who finishes a PhD in 4 years will know less and be less capable as a scientist than one who finishes in 5-6. www.nsf.gov/news/nsf-par...

It's a point I've been trying to make for a long time: there is no good way to meet even 10% of current demand for animal products. They trash the living world, whichever way you do it. If you want to reduce your impact, switch to a plant-based diet. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A couple of years ago I was pitching a major poultry industry company on AI enabled precision genome editing. Two hours into the meeting I learned that “AI” to them obviously referred to Avian Influenza. Know your audience.
